Dem senator: Trump 'spread falsehoods' about immigration bill

Source: The Hill

BY MAX GREENWOOD - 02/16/18 09:51 AM EST

Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) on Friday accused President Trump and administration officials of killing a bipartisan immigration reform bill by spreading misinformation.

"Why we can't get this done is clear: It was active lobbying by the President and the Department of Homeland Security that spread falsehoods and misleading statements against the compromise bill that two dozen of us worked very hard to get to the floor yesterday," Coons, who backed the centrist proposal, said on CNN's "New Day."

The centrist proposal, and other immigration bills, were all voted down in the Senate on Thursday, effectively throwing the fate of Dreamers, young immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children, into limbo

The bill backed by Coons would have offered Dreamers a pathway to citizenship, while offering roughly $25 billion for Trump's proposed wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. That bill got 54 votes in the Senate on Thursday – six short of the 60 it needed to pass.

1. Apparently the President is the third component in "bipartison" negotiations to passing anything, and

2. When push comes to shove, there aren't enough Republicans with a spine strong enough to vote to do the right thing if their party leader doesn't approve of the Bill. At this point, I can't imagine a situation where they'd vote to override a veto from Trump.

He can talk a good game sometimes when the cameras are on but when Trump says jump, he asks "How high?"

This turtle has no spine.

I have come to believe that Donald Trump, like most incumbent Republicans, deals in bad faith.

So there's no compromise immigration bill? Gee, what an eff'ing surprise!

And I have the same complaint to rest of our Dems, and media. Quit pussyfooting around with your language! Crap like this is why we lose the messaging war.
