Schiff says Bannon 'likely' to be held in contempt

Washington (CNN)The top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee said Friday it's likely that Steve Bannon will be held in contempt of Congress after refusing to answer questions before the panel, which is investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

"I think it's likely that he will face a contempt citation," Rep. Adam Schiff, D-California, said at a Council on Foreign Relations event.

The former White House chief strategist declined Thursday to answer a wide array of key questions pertinent to the Russia investigation, telling the panel he was instructed by the White House to invoke executive privilege on behalf of President Donald Trump.

According to Schiff, Bannon would only answer 25 questions authorized by the White House and answered "no" to all of them.

I heard that very thing just prior to Flynn's indictment.

And just prior to Manafort's indictment.

And just prior to Rick Gate's indictment.

And just prior to George Papadopoulos' indictment.

If it depends on lyin' Ryan to defy TrumPutin, then consequences will likely be postponed until after November.

First, the committee must vote to hold Bannon in contempt which must be approved by the full House. Then, it goes to the US DA for DC who must empanel a grand jury to indict Bannon. If it goes to trial and he is convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $100,000 fine.

I seriously doubt the contempt order reaches that trial conviction stage.

Questions approved by Rump, and the answers? Maybe this was Mueller bait.

14. I don't care if 45 kisses Bannon's ass (or vice versa), force Bannon to testify.

Bannon can't involve executive privilege (only tRUMP does). So Bannon has to either tell the truth in answering the ?s posed to him, or cite 5th Amendment in right to not self-incriminate.

Simple, eh?

And...no one is above the law, as Bannon supposes he is. Idiot too. His brand went down in flames when more and more of his rants and raves told us all about Bannon, the man! What a joke.

15. The House Intelligence Committee is useless at this point

When we take back the House in November, however, that would certainly change things.

I have nothing but respect for and empathy with Adam Schiff, Eric Swalwell, et al., but they know they're embroiled in a horse and pony show as long as Devin Nunes and the Pukes are holding the reins.

With Bannon having spent 20 MEANINGFUL hours being interviewed by Robert M and the Muellettes, the likely scenario is that he was instructed to keep his testimony quiet and to hide behind the White House's sophomoric demand for privilege when no such privilege exists. Plausible deniability for Bannon; limited information to Trump. A real coup.

This particular story is a non-starter, as far as I'm concerned.
