Florida Gov Demands FBI Director Wray Resign Over Inaction On Shooter Tip

Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) on Friday said that FBI Director Chris Wray should resign over the bureaus failure to act on a tip it received in January about the alleged gunman who attacked a Florida high school on Wednesday, leaving 17 people dead.
The FBIs failure to take action against this killer is unacceptable, Scott said in a statement. We constantly promote see something, say something, and a courageous person did just that to the FBI. And the FBI failed to act. See something, say something is an incredibly important tool and people must have confidence in the follow through from law enforcement. The FBI director needs to resign.

The FBI on Friday said that it failed to follow up on a tip from a person close to Nikolas Cruz, the alleged shooter. According to a statement from the agency, the person informed the FBI of Cruzs gun ownership, desire to kill people, erratic behavior and disturbing social media posts, as well as the potential of him conducting a school shooting.
Scott is considering running to represent Florida in the Senate and is reportedly close with President Donald Trump, who has recently launched an all-out attack on the FBI because he believes some officials are biased against his presidency.

(17,390 posts)...and that Wray was only appointed in August 2017, thus causing a huge disruption in FBI operations coupled with constant attacks and demands to clean house at the FBI?
Scott should look in the mirror or blame Trump and Sessions. Why doesnt he?

(28,273 posts)Skelator Scott is just doing the usual right-wing diversion thing with the FBI. I'm sure the bureau receives thousands of such tips every year about people who have no business having access to firearms; unfortunately, human error is bound to come into play.

Actually, "Nikolas Cruz" sounds like a Hispanic name, so it's entirely possible they wouldn't have done jack shit, but still...

(32,082 posts)Thanks for the personal attack, TOS violation.
The current Director is Christopher A. Wray, who assumed the role on August 2, 2017 after being confirmed by the U.S. Senate, taking over from acting Director Andrew McCabe after the dismissal of former Director James Comey by President Donald Trump.

(33,643 posts)Confiscating weapons they are legally in possession of ... on the basis of a 'tip'?
Is that your 'official position' on the subject?
No, you don't mean THAT, do you now?
Or perhaps you feel that the FBI should immediately begin 'tailing' every single gun owner that someone else calls the FBI on and says 'this person is scaring me with his guns and talk'?
If so, how long should they FBI trail these people FOR, exactly? The rest of their lives? Just to see if they eventually act out violently?
And if so, you're good with hiring 10's of 1000's of professional FBI 'tip tailers', all with gov't salaries and pensions and benefits, at cost of probably on the order of 100's of Millions/year after all expenses and travel and per diem are paid?
No, you're not saying THAT either?
THEN WTF ARE YOU SAYING THEY SHOULD'VE DONE, dumbass?

(1,332 posts)Scott is just trying to cover his ass. They could have interviewed the kid and if he seemed somewhat normal, they can't sit on the kid forever. It's like with the Boston bomber, they checked on them but at that time, they weren't;t doing anything. Scoot is trying to deflect from Florida's gun laws. It's like I've said, having been a public librarian in an urban library for 30 years, we dealt with
people who were mentally impaired for years, the difference is, they didn't have guns. Crazy without guns is just crazy, crazy with guns is when the trouble starts.

(1,990 posts)Something doesn't smell right. My kids go to highschool and if I knew of a potential problem kid or ex-student that could threaten my kids with guns, I would contact the local Sheriff. I think over 90% of the country would do this. Could this be a trumped up hit job against the FBI? Who bypasses the local authorities and goes to the FBI? It is stupid to do so. I have become so jaded to think of things like this.

(2,309 posts)It's just another try to destroy the FBI and discredit Mueller. If it is true--and there's a good reason it is--there is a reason for the FBI having trouble. Trump has been destroying the ability of the FBI and the rest of the government to function.
Destruction of the US government, of course, is just what Putin wants. Nothing too difficult here to figure out.
