Louisvilles 2013 national championship banner is coming down from the rafters.
The NCAA Committee on Infractions upheld its ruling Tuesday to strip the Cardinals of 123 wins dating from 2012 through 2015, including two Final Four appearances. It is the first time in modern NCAA history that a Division I mens basketball national championship has been vacated.
The decision stems from a 2015 NCAA investigation that found members of the coaching staff provided prostitutes and strippers for players and recruits.
Louisville must also pay the NCAA $600,000 in fines, interim university president Greg Postel said at a news conference announcing the ruling.

(2,315 posts)Based upon NCAA history this won't last long. If it is OK to molest children, it certainly is OK to pay prostitutes and strippers.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Penn State's football team is getting back 112 wins wiped out during the Jerry Sandusky child molestation scandal, and the late Joe Paterno has been restored as the winningest coach in major college football history.
The NCAA announced the new settlement with the school Friday, weeks before a scheduled trial on the legality of the 2012 consent decree it will replace.

(182,883 posts)Come on Pitino! Don't let Calipari beat at that too.
Of course USC had a football championship vacated too.

Neither of Calipari's was a championship - just final four appearances. Pitino got one championship and 1 final four appearance (2012) vacated in one NCAA ruling.

(847 posts)campuses. Like, you know, bowling on most campuses.
I was ready to scream for NC to be shut down. So I started reading about it and it's become a story that I now understand and that fascinates me. I'm now convinced it was blown out of proportion. Had they had easy classes just for athletes they should have been fried. They didn't. They just had some easy classes.
Now I'm fascinated by Louisville. I think the whole hiring women to have sex with players/etc is gonna be a hard one to get past. Easy classes on campuses just ain't the same as buying hookers for recruits/team/etc.

(55,445 posts)and a "no show, no work except for one assignment and even THAT will be done for you to get your effortless A-grade" class, right??
A *LOT* of high-profile programs (Notre Dame, Minnesota, Maryland, Ohio State, Memphis, Texas Tech) got dinged for cases of academic fraud much less egregious than this...

(65,191 posts)Like a stalinist creation of a non-person. What does the NCAA think, that nobody will remember actually seeing the games?
The correct punishment is CASH against the school and fire anybody who should have know and should have prevented the violations.
Telling the players that they didn't actually win those games and the championship is just silly.
