Democrat outraises Ted Cruz in Texas Senate race so far in 2018

Source: The Hill

A Democratic candidate has outraised Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R) so far in 2018, posing a possible challenge for the well-known Republican firebrand in the upcoming midterm elections.

El Paso Rep. Beto O’Rourke’s campaign raised $2.3 million in the first six weeks of the year, federal filings show, topping Cruz's $800,000 over the same period.

"This is serious," the Cruz campaign told its donors in a message after the O'Rourke campaign reached the $2 million mark after just 45 days of fundraising in 2018, according to The Dallas Morning News.

O'Rourke is gaining momentum in the race, and has surpassed Cruz in fundraising for the last three of four reporting periods for campaign finances, the outlet reported.

But that doesn't negate the fact that when it is just left to the popularity of the candidates themselves, without secret dirty money from Kansas billionaires, that a Texas Democrat's popularity turns out to be three times that of Ted Cruz.

First thing I thought when I saw the OP headline was "Yeah but he'll get a big fat check from the Kochs".

One can only hope that the number of votes for Beto far outnumbers any influenced by the propaganda from a bunch of greedy billionaires.

The second most hated man in Washington DC. . Its no surprise as much as people hate this serial liar, and trump is the only one hated more, with his family. Hope Texans vote this idiot out. He did vote for the tax scam , enriching the wealthiest people in Texas, and then ripped health care away from millions. Even his own party hates this guy with a passion. He won't vote to ban assault weapons of war either. Another tool of the NRA.

in the top 10. He was in the top two or three before Nov., 9, 2016 though. Now there are more and more popping up (Nunes, McConnell, Ryan, Miller...). They multiply like bunnies.

Look, Democrats raise money in small dollar amounts. We don't have a lot of superpac money on hand to cover all the candidates needs. Dem's HAVE to raise a lot of money through campaign contributions, most of them small dollar bundles.

The GOP candidates on the other hand rely on LARGE money donors, and a lot of that is dark money (including foreign money) that gets routed through pac's.

They simply don't have to work as hard, so they don't start as early. They still raise what they need in the end.

I don't think it's a very valid sign that cruz is in any kind of trouble. He is a TX Republican running for re-election. The money will be there when he needs it.
