Exclusive: Trump privately pushing personal pilot
Source: Axios
The presidents personal pilot is on the administration's short list to head the Federal Aviation Administration. Trump has told a host of administration officials and associates that he wants John Dunkin his longtime personal pilot, who flew him around the country on Trump Force One during the campaign to helm the agency, which has a budget in the billions and which oversees all civil aviation in the United States.
What I'm hearing: One industry insider equated this to the Seinfeld episode when Cosmo Kramer used his golf caddy as a jury consultant. A senior administration official told me that comparison is completely unfair. The source confirmed Trump recommended Dunkin and that hes sat for an interview for the post. That source said he was impressive.
Hes on the list because he's the presidents pilot, but if he gets the job it won't be because he's the president's pilot, the source said.
In response to my questions for this story, another administration source stressed that while no decision has been made, Dunkin has the appropriate experience to get the job.

(11,519 posts)This is such a slap in the face to the entire aviation industry, I just can't believe (oh fuck it - yes I can) that 45* has the ignorance to believe that just because someone is qualified to fly a private jet that they have anywhere near the experience required to oversee a multi Billion dollar agency with our lives riding on the decisions being made by that agency.
This is utterly absurd, yet this type of craziness has become expected from 45*.

(7,432 posts)Secretary of State in South Korea, so why cant his personal pilot run a huge federal agency that protects the lives of millions every month? Its all the same for Trumpy. If he likes you then you can do anything for him, no matter the difficulty or skill set. Just faking your way through your job is the same as actually DOING the job.

(36,827 posts)I don't know anything about Trump's pilot other than it's probably a safe bet he has none of the administration and governmental experience necessary to run a major federal agency, but at least he actually is a pilot. When W picked a non-pilot as FAA administrator it pissed off quite a few actual pilots because the person selected to regulate them had no idea what it means to actually do the job.

(54,256 posts)I know a hell of a lot about flying airplanes, but I am no more qualified to head the FAA than Clarence Thomas is to be on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Or, is Eric Trump busy? He's flown on airplanes, so he's qualified.
