Tragic end to the life of an accomplished director. (ETA) Tony and brother Ridley worked together on that show "Numb3rs"! I discovered that show around 07 or 08. Enjoyed it.

(12,041 posts)True Romance is a classic, one of the best crime movies ever. I know a lot of people will disagree with me on this but I think it is better than The Godfather.

(12,644 posts)It has a pretty unique style that I haven't seen copied really in any other movie. Though not if you get squeamish with explicit violence.

(19,537 posts)"Top Gun" was based on the life of Randy Duke Cunningham, another disgusting politician that at one point was my congressman. Don't know if in the sequel they were going to try to make Tom Cruise's character more of a fictional departure from Cunningham's character.
But if Tony had to deal with possibly both Duke Cunningham and Bill O'Reilly, I wonder if that was bugging him?
Coincidentally just this weekend, I had someone relate a personal story about O'Reilly that confirmed for me how disgusting that man is. I could see how perhaps having to work with that bum might help put someone on edge.
Ridley Scott is one of my favorite film directors and Tony certainly is up there. Hoping that Ridley doesn't let this affect him too much and still continues his great work and gets the sequel done to perhaps my favorite film "Blade Runner" that he's supposed to be working on now. Must be tough though, given the circumstances!

(39,332 posts)Too soon to guess but from his output one can imagine he didn't have much time for self reflection.. comes a difficult moment, a transition, getting older .. and he hasn't had the time to build that relationship with himself. Just a thought.
There are many who have physical ills and make that decision, 68 is not that young. Hemingway for example knew he couldn't work anymore. In that light it's not so hard to understand his decision.
What troubles me here is the dramatic choice he made to jump from a bridge. That tells me his mind was distorted, that's just too troubling for family to handle. It's too grand, but then again his movies were grand and showed an impeccable quality that bordered on high art. He was underrated.

(19,537 posts)which if true, is very, very sad and understandable on how it might affect someone like him that way...
I recall another celebrity recently that faced with a similar medical condition also taking his life too.

(62,444 posts)That headline needs prepositional help.
While I realize that "jumping off of bridge" is generally non-lethal, but soon leads to the tricky part, i.e. landing Using "after" seems to understate the causal relationship.

(19,537 posts)It sounds like liberal talk show host Garett in that situation had a lot of financial problems which lead him to try to be "creative" in doing very questionable things to get himself out of debt, which ultimately had him feel he couldn't win. I wonder whether we'll find out Tony's circumstances in the weeks to come.
