Trump excludes Floridas Democratic senator from bipartisan meeting on guns just like he did after hurricane

Sen. Bill Nelson, Floridas only Democratic senator, was excluded from a bipartisan meeting on gun laws at the White House even though the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School occurred in his state.
The Wall Street Journal reported that President Donald Trump had scheduled a bipartisan meeting to talk about gun legislation on Wednesday.
An effort to tighten the national background-check system for gun sales bogged down on Capitol Hill Tuesday, but lawmakers held out hope that bipartisan negotiations, including a White House meeting on Wednesday, could spur legislative action in response to recent mass shootings, the Journal noted.
But according to The Tampa Bay Times, Nelson office confirmed this week that he was snubbed from the meeting. Republican Sen. Marco Rubio and other Florida lawmakers were invited to the event.

you can't just pop in to the west wing of the white house
BUT it will not be long before trump is complaining that the dems will not be bi-partisan

(11,879 posts)with the press in tow... present your credentials and wait there while they confer with the WH staff that will eventually bar you... then turn to the press and let it rip.
I have been to the White House and know how the check in proceedure works.

(25,272 posts)Let Trump throw him out. Maybe Trump won't let him have a chance to be thrown out - because he won't be let in. Either way - have the press waiting outside and hold an impromtu press conference pointing out that the shooting happened in his state and Trump is having a bipartisan meeting - but he won't let the Dem Senator from the State represent his constituency. Make a big deal about this and don't let up on Trump.

(2,969 posts)Even though he's of the opposite party from Nelson, he should have insisted that Nelson be invited, too. Or he should have declined.

(56 posts)Trump strongly opposed including concealed carry reciprocity in any bill (like the House Bill) and restated the need for a raise to 21 age for rifles. Some hope. Of course he wants to get rid of gun free zones, although Trump seems limited to military bases.
Also open to improving Brady Act confiscations.
