Special Counsel studies Trump campaign ties to Cambridge Analytics, sources say

Source: ABC News

As questions have mounted about data firm Cambridge Analytica’s alleged misuse of Facebook data from up to 50 million user profiles, it has not only caught the eye of Congressional investigators but also the special counsel investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team for the last several weeks has had a growing interest to better understand the relationship between the campaign, the Republican National Committee, and Cambridge Analytica, sources tell ABC News.

The company is also under investigation by British officials for its use of Facebook users’ data.

Sources tell ABC News several digital experts who worked in support of Trump’s bid in 2016 have met with Mueller's team for closed-door interviews. The staffers, most of whom were employed by the RNC, served as key members of the 2016 operation working closely with the campaign and the data firm, the sources said. The company worked closely with the Republican candidate’s political team.

We already know the russians hacked voter registration databases in several swing states. These db's contain names, addresses, party affiliation, and voting history. Combined with the info mined from facebook, it would help focus specific messages to specific people.

So, did the ruskies turn over these db's to CA? Did the RNC get their hands on the records? Did they know that CA was using them?

That would likely be felonious in several ways.

A related question, did the data Kobach collected as part of his trump voter fraud commission end up at CA?

Questions, questions.......

how, if they ever thought they could, how they can keep a lid on it.

In the digital age information has a way of leaking or being discovered

would have already been all over this. We knew CA and Facebook were involved and it didn't make sense last Sept when we on DU read about CA. That is where and when this was posted.

But on the other hand, every week that goes by, there is almost inevitably going to be more crimes brought to light and added to the indictment.

But then that is how the feds work. They often go slow enough to give the perps the idea nothing is gonna happen, but thwy end up with a longer rope. Also, they really don't like losing in courst so they make damn sure all the i's are dotted and the t's are crossed.

Q1. Where the hell is all the data?

We now know that data bases exist with voter info in one or more locations (if I've missed any, please chime in):
a. Russian-collected voter data hacked from the states.
b. Republican operative-collected data from the states for their vote fraud committee.
c. Personal data scoured from Facebook and other social media by CA.

Once this data was gathered, to my knowledge there was nothing to stop rogue elements from transmitting the data to other parties around the globe.

Q2. The big, big question is: can this data be recovered and wiped from servers (perhaps numerous copies in several locations)?
AND,
Q3. Who should be in charge of this task and responsible for dealing with it securely?
