Donations to the NRA tripled after the Parkland shooting
Source: CNN
In the days and weeks following the February 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, the National Rifle Association saw a significant spike in donations.
In fact, reports from the Federal Election Commission show donations to the NRA's Political Victory Fund tripled from January to February.
In January, the NRA collected almost $248,000 in individual contributions. In February, they collected more than $779,000.
It's no secret that interest in guns and gun sales -- as evidenced by anecdotes and manufacturing numbers -- have until recently gotten boosts from mass shootings. So it would stand to reason that donations to the NRA would get a bump as well.

Though not at all surprising, this is absolutely sickening. I sincerely hope that the protest actions started by our current crop of students and young adults will catch fire and force our politicians to face reality.

(11,523 posts)Polling after the Parkland massacre indicates that over 2/3 of registered American voters agree that gun control laws need to be more strict. That's hardly a ringing endorsement for your assertion.
Edit to add:
I see that someone alerted on the previous post, and I can certainly see why. However, in a way I wish it were still there so everyone could see the stupidity that we're up against - a new 'member' of DU was claiming that far more people support the 2nd A than support the efforts of young Americans to improve gun control laws.
The problem with lies like this one goes back to the old saying "A lie can travel around the world in the time it takes the truth to put on its' pants". We are forced to expend a great deal of time and effort debunking right wing lies, and we'd darned well better have done our research and get our facts straight or we come across as looking like idiots.

(23,369 posts)Much money is being spent on gun control efforts, and another pile (probably less) is being spent for NRA lobbying.
Nothing sells guns like a hint of increased gun control. Remington may even hope to exploit this to get out of bankruptcy.
Why expect change? Has Trump's approval rating fallen again? His base is a lock, for Trump, and probably for the NRA.

(45,541 posts)8 years of buying weapons after every mass shooting must have been expensive to many folks who had to choose between health insurance and weapons of war. Might as well give up the family's rent money as donations to NRA. It's worth it to resist tyranny of the high school kids.
If you had to choose between educating your kids and defeating the zombie apocalypse of deranged millennials hopped up on Tide pods, choose guns every time. There was a run on bump stocks after Vegas also. You never know when you need that.

The majority of this money funds NRA initiatives like member newsletters, sporting events and gun safety education and training programs.
