After Roseanne's Huge Return, ABC Quickly Renews for Next Season

Source: AdWeek

Less than 48 hours after Roseanne returned to enormous ratings, ABC has already picked up the revival for another season.

On Tuesday, the hour-long return of Roseanne in its former 8 p.m. time slot was watched by a whopping 18.2 million viewers and earned a 5.2 rating in the 18-49 demo, making it the most-watched comedy telecast since September 2014. Tuesday’s premiere also had higher ratings than its then-series finale in May 1997, which was watched by 16.6 million.

In its renewal announcement, the network took the unusual step of touting the show’s live-plus-one ratings, noting that with just one day of delayed viewing tallied, Roseanne’s total viewer numbers jumped to 21.9 million while the 18-49 demo rating increased to 6.2.

“We’re thrilled that America has welcomed the Conner family back into their homes. The show is as fresh and relevant today as it was when it left the air 21 years ago. We can’t wait to see what the ‘Roseanne’ team has in store for next year,” said Channing Dungey in a statement.

Barr is the one who is footing to production costs, not the network! This was the first episode, which means that a lot of viewers were curious...what happens next week if the ratings aren't as high?

1st show, sure a lot of curious people watched (not me!)...but wait a few weeks or a month and I wouldn't doubt the viewership sinking faster than the Titanic.

Might be time to develop a list so that people can start writing the advertisers. Boycott!

So big deal, Roseanne show is back... tell me? are all shows on TV liberal biased? no, are all right wing biased? no. I also recall when Wil and Grace came back, their first show was decorating the white house, and laughing by saying things like, oh, we will just come back in a year, and comedic stuff about trump, so .......just see what it is for itsself a bullshit show, that just may be cancelled as fast as a new Democrat is president.....trust me, when Trump is not president in 2020, hes going to be back on his nbc show, and it will be watched.....

C'mon, man...you can do a lot better. W had Chuck Norris and Ted Nugent. I hear Stacey Dash is looking for work. Or maybe y'all could get one of the other senile A-listers like John Voight or Clint Eastwood instead of some d-lister trying to make a comeback like Roseanne.

I agree that ABC must have done basic research on her before greenlighting the show. They’ll reap what they sow. Those pictures are in shockingly bad taste, context and all.
