President Trump's approval rating hit a record low in March, a new poll finds.
Morning Consult's 50 state approval tracker finds 41 percent of registered voters approved of Trump's job performance during March. A majority, 54 percent, disapproved of the president's job performance.
The data from March surpasses the president's previous lows in October and November, when 42 percent of respondents approved of Trump's job performance and 53 percent disapproved.
It also falls below his February approval ratings, when 43 percent of respondents approved of the job he was doing in the White House and 52 percent held the opposite view.

(4,407 posts)An all time high (Rasmussen) or a record low (Morning Consult)? In these crazy times, polls are starting to seem irrelevant.

(16,423 posts)It all depends on what kind of people you ask. You need a batch that looks like a cross-cut of the population. Rasmussen simply uses a batch that overrepresents Republicans.

(26,060 posts)is Rassmussen ONLY CALLS LANDLINES. ZERO CELL PHONES. Can you even imagine how that skews towards older voters? It's worthless. Don't let the cons con you.

(32,068 posts)The ones which showed Clinton did not have anything to worry about in the upper Midwest states? ALL polls have a bias. They have to when they only contact about 1500 people in a nation of 330 million. So they have to weight responses based on a model. Many of the polls in 2016 had poor models and had poor results when applied to the states. Which is where elections are won or lost.

(26,060 posts)that in WI (notoriously a hard state to poll) that wasn't within the margin of error (why do people constantly forget the margin of error that is posted on each and every poll). Look at any site that aggregates polls and you get a truer sense of what is actually going on. No one poll is always accurate but rassmussen is CLEARLY BS since it doesn't call cell phones.

(32,068 posts)No presidential candidate relies on public polls. They all hire private pollsters who are polling specific states where elections are won or lost. That's why they call them "internal" polls and they are never released to the public.

(1,896 posts)But Rasmussen is about the only public poll I'm aware of which actually had Romney winning.

(32,068 posts)But we had our own problems with polls in the upper Midwest in 2016. Never rely on any polls in my view.

(1,896 posts)We had basically a one-off error in most serious polls. There are arguments that people just didn't want to admit that they were voting for Trump, and a whole host of other second-guessing explanations after the fact trying to explain and fix the polling error among professionals going forward and dealing with changes in technology and demographics. Rasmussen is just openly a partisan GOP supporter.
Honest mistakes bother me a lot less than blatant lying and I tend to approach them very differently. Although the bottom line is that I do tend to agree with you about not relying on polls, I wind up throwing more venom at Rasmussen.

Let's stop worrying about his deplorable supporters who still approve of this asshole and make sure we get the folks who didn't think about who they were voting for because "EMAILS!".

(3,166 posts)"Rasmussen, of course, is notorious for their sloppy work and their pronounced Republican house effect. They are, in fact, so problematic that some polling aggregators won't use their numbers any more (in 2016, we offered a Rasmussen-free option, for the same reason). And even if one is not familiar with the various analyses of their work, a glance at their website makes clear how much they are in the bag for Trump. Consider this graphic comparing Obama's approval rating with that of Trump":

So I see 40% support as being scary.
