Dem challenger: I dont think that Ted Cruz is an a--hole
Source: The Hill
Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-Texas) Democratic challenger says in a new interview that he doesn't "publicly" believe Cruz is an "asshole," apparently walking back the sentiment from a recent appearance on HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher."
Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-Texas) told The New York Times's Frank Bruni he was just "moving the conversation along" when he replied "that's true" after Maher told him, dont forget, [Cruz is] a giant asshole.
I think I was just moving the conversation along, O'Rourke said in the interview published Saturday. Anyhow, I dont think that Ted Cruz is an asshole.
I certainly dont think that publicly, he added, when pressed.

(11,885 posts)From being likable, or honest, which nobody has ever accused him of. Even his own people in the GOP can't stand this guy. He needs to go before he helps them destroy Medicare and Social Security, which he'll do, just like they are doing to enable corruption in DC to continue unchecked. Add he voted for their tax scam , giving billions to the wealthy, and then destroyed the ACA for 15-20 million, and planning to destroy it for many millions more. I think he does deserve that title after doing this to the American people, then claim its good, but he doesn't tell you good for him and others that are wealthy. He could care less about you having health care or they wouldn't have done this.

(847 posts)won. Or know a politician that did.
I'm just trying to get a read on how effective this strategy is.
Now, idiot Trump called everybody every name in the book and won. So that's "1".
Anybody else?

a derogatory name and people write-it off mentally as "that's not news." But when it's an anomalous one-off "deplorable" or "asshole," then it gets disproportionate attention and judged differently. Counter-intuitively, the exception becomes a defining moment because it stands out as more significant.
Reflected a bit more on the psychology of it (not a psyc major - undergrad was as much poly sci/history I was allowed in a math & engineering BS)
Trump goes through the primary dishing out the insults. He says "Low Energy Jeb" and we nod, "Little Marco" and we chuckle, "Lying Ted" and we think I could have told you that.
He goes on with "Crazy Bernie" & the HRC supporters don't object all that much. And when "Crooked Hillary" comes out, pretty much all the Republicans agree and Bernie supporters are thinking they didn't like the way the primary played out.
Overall, politicians don't do this and get elected. When you mock everybody, it appears as equal-opportunity insults. A voter cares when he picks on their own favorite plus the "well, he was right about Cruz" factor.
