Collins: Pruitt Is Wrong Person To Lead EPA On Policy Grounds Alone

Source: Talking Points Memo

Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) said Sunday that, based on policy grounds alone, Scott Pruitt should never have been administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.

Pruitt has faced scandal after scandal in recent weeks, including over the $50-a-night townhouse lease he signed with a prominent lobbyist couple and the two top aides of his who were given raises using a loophole in a law typically used to hire environmental experts.

President Donald Trump has supported Pruitt publicly, and Pruitt reportedly met with Trump on Friday in a bid to keep his job.

In an interview with Collins, CNNs Jake Tapper noted that she had been the lone Republican senator to vote against Pruitts confirmation and asked if she thought Pruitt should lose his job.

The fact remains that she voted against him. Whether it was done on principle or politics, she voted to keep this particular clown from joining the circus. Unfortunately there were plenty of other votes to let him come out and play, so it looks like we're stuck with him.

Is nothing more than covering your own backside. This guy is as corrupt as they come while you and your RepubliCON party do nothing. Nov. Senator Collins isn't that far off, and this will be remembered no matter what you now say. You all are doing the same thing with this fake president, nothing. You've watched his destruction of policies designed to protect our environment , and have enabled this nightmare upon us now, so now being concerned is more than a little late, while our water and air are constantly under attack, and being polluted. 2018 Nov. coming up fast . The blue wave just got larger .

Despite her being a Republican soldier, she has said a thing or two, and called out Trump, when most others did not. She's on the record before the election as stating that Trump is unfit for office.

While she did fail on lots of other issues, she did vote against the worst cabinet pick of all.
We do need people to come across the aisle to vote this trash out of office , so when we're all done pointing out their flaws we need help getting to 51 votes.

So we can't expect the opposition to behave like THEIR opposition.

But think about how you'd react if a famous, high profile Democrat said negative statements about Obama publicly because that's what s/he believed. The Dem would have to feel very strongly to take on the wrath of his/her own party. Which is what Collins has done on a few occasions. She's despised by the wacko alt-right.

(She was a yea vote for the 2nd bill to repeal the ACA because she foolishly believed the empty promises the Repubs & Trump had made to her. They got her vote, then reneged on the deal.)

So why speak out? Just take the money and go with the flow.

Or speak out and get trashed by your own party AND by the opposition. That's truly the losing position to take.

I give credit where credit is due. Speaking out by Republicans MEANS SOMETHING, given that almost none of them do.

In a perfect world, she'd have the power to overturn Trump, and she would have. But she doesn't, so she can't.

She DID vote against repealing the ACA the first time. It mattered, too. She was one of the very few who were instrumental in keeping the ACA from being repealed.

She deserves credit for saving the ACA, as does McCain. They ARE still Republicans and WILL vote with their party most of the time. Just like Democrats do.

Sheesh. Some people expect perfection. Perfection doesn't exist. A Republican who speaks out AND votes against all Republican bills is: A Democrat. Because you are a member of a party because you agree with most of the platform. That's true for Republicans AND Democrats.

After saying the opposite about Pruitt earlier. She's part of the problem, and the American people must agree because they're saying now both house will be flipping over to the Democrats this Nov. . Even top GOP people are saying it now. The Senate needs to be out of McConnell's control, and now its looking more likely it will be as they do nothing to trump , and Pruitt and others for their corruption.
