Christie to Trump: 'You can't fire the special counsel
Source: The Hill
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) warned President Trump against firing special counsel Robert Mueller on Tuesday.
In an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, Christie said it would be "a big problem" if Trump overruled his advisers and directed Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to fire the special counsel. "You can't fire the special counsel. You just can't," Christie said.
Christie, who served as a member of Trump's transition team, added that many who surround the president worry his reaction to a no-knock raid Monday by FBI agents in the offices of his lawyer, Michael Cohen, could overstep boundaries.
"I think he does understand it," he added, "but I think there's lots of people who are concerned that his reaction to this may overcome what he's already been told."

(34,452 posts)He did the right thing here. Who knows whether he will have influence, though.
McConnell and Ryan need to tell Trump the same thing AND say they will initiate impeachment if Trump dies this. But we all know they wont.

(17,387 posts)...will just fall in line. Nothing like have hundreds of millions of 24/7 propaganda on hand to keep the troops loyal in the form of Fox News and the rest of the right wing media bubble.

(19,201 posts)majority in the House are sworn in, they can begin impeachment proceedings. Trump's and Cohen's crimes in New York won't be swept under the rug by their firing of those three, so there will be plenty to keep them busy until the Blue Tsunami hits the shoreline. I'm sure Mueller has put a 'poison pill' in place should Trump try to do something so foolish. Mueller knows who and what he's dealing with here. I highly doubt he'd leave an investigation of this magnitude and importance unprotected and exposed to a two-bit criminal like Trump.

You can do this, buddy! C'mon! What have you been waiting for? Freedom, sweet, sweet freedom is just around the corner! Just one more little firing! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!

(7,813 posts)fired, then things are fine. Firing Mueller is discussed as the 'red line'...but they have shifted their efforts to undermining Mueller's investigation without firing Mueller. They appear to be going after Rosenstein, hoping that he or his successor will agree to re-define the goals of the investigation essentially limiting it to a non-threatening scope.
All their 'brave' statements trying to scare us into thinking he 'might' fire Mueller and they THEY would advise against it. They set up a scary straw man but all they really want is a limited investigation and they want everyone to be relieved, saying '...well at least they didn't fire Mueller!'
They stuff they want to exclude from the investigation is probably where the proof of money laundering and collusion is...attorneys' offices, tax returns, bank records, business records, etc

(988 posts)It is possible a new assistant attorney general could be brought in that tells mueller to stop and don't say a word. I'm not sure mueller would be able to do anything about that. Southern district of New York is a different story.

(3,426 posts)A melt down is no less than Christie expects. If he had been selected for, oh say the vice presidency, the melt down will have cleared his path to the oval office, because he would never get there any other way. No doubt Christie is somewhat surprised at how quickly it seems to be coming about. But than again, he did the same thing to himself -you know ,the bridge. They have no provable evidence is how he summed up the trial. And of course they believe the same conclusion will happen in the outcome of the investigation . Trump saying he had no knowledge of any of it. Christie actually said ,if Trump had not entered the race, he, Christie would be president today. So he's in denial. Another thing those two may very well have in common. The thing about the George Washington Bridge, it still very much there, it ain't go'en nowhere and neither is Christie. You want to know what Trump's issues are all about-? It's simple, he just can't make it go away- slip off into forgetville, put to sleep ,on and so on. The investigation is like the bridge-it's here to stay . It haunts them both.
