Dana Boente, former top Justice Department official now at FBI, has been interviewed by Mueller and turned over notes
By Matt Zapotosky April 10 at 11:29 PM
Dana Boente, the former acting attorney general who now serves as general counsel at the FBI, has been interviewed by the special counsels office and turned over handwritten notes that could be a piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation into whether President Trump obstructed justice, according to people familiar with the matter.
Boente was interviewed some months ago by special counsel Robert S. Mueller IIIs team on a wide range of topics, including his recollections of what former FBI director James B. Comey told him about troubling interactions with Trump, one of the people said.
The interview is significant because it shows how Mueller is exploring whether the president obstructed justice and keying in on conversations Trump had with his former FBI director about the probe involving his presidential campaign. It also shows the extent to which Mueller has gone to corroborate Comeys account.
The FBI and special counsels office declined to comment for this story.

(128,980 posts)if Comey asked Boente to "leak" them given that Comey is about to go on a book tour and will be on 20/20 this coming Sunday.

(22,801 posts)an inappropriate question. The entire FBI (and the CIA, NSA, etc) were insulted by Trump before he was even sworn in. The entire Justice Department (other than Sessions) is working together to build the most airtight case in history. They have to get it right because the stakes are huge. They are taking down the President of the United States! Firing Mueller would just be another count of obstruction of justice at this point. The investigation has a life of its own now, and it will continue unhindered if Mueller is fired.

(128,980 posts)there was a strategy here that ensured that a large number of GOP in Congress were sucked into the conspiracy, thus guaranteeing their silence while they came to a complete standstill in terms of investigating and acting to stave off the criminality. And with that strategy they can later laugh and point at Democrats should we take over, and propagandize (like they have already started) about how we should "move on" and not carry through with enforcing the rule of law.

(22,801 posts)The only strategy I've seen on the GOP side has been unmitigated greed and abuse of power. They all felt untouchable. They committed fraud and treason with impunity and got overconfident, as crooks often do when they've been getting away with murder for so long. The Justice Department is in motion, has built an enormous amount of momentum, and will roll over anyone who gets in the way of their investigation. At some point, it will be every man for himself when they start scrambling to cut a deal and stay out of jail. It won't be a pretty sight. Boehner got out in time, and he's shilling for the marijuana industry now...
