Rep. Dennis Ross (R-FL) is retiring

Source: Tampa Bay Times

Rep. Dennis Ross, R-Lakeland, told his staff this morning he is retiring.

"Eight years takes its time on you. … There's got to be an exit strategy at some point," Ross said in an interview.

He said he was informing staff about his decision and looked up at Fox News to see Speaker Paul Ryan had decided to step down.

Ross said he wants to spend more time at home, with two sons getting married within the year and cited the grind of travel to and from Washington. He dismissed the suggestion that his retirement had anything to do with a possible Democratic wave.

8 years is a long time to work??? Try 50 you dumbass. Plus, he has two sons getting married and that's any reason to leave? Why? Do his sons need him to be the wedding planner? Do they really think we are dumb enough to buy that horseshit?

He's leaving for the same reason all the other GOPee'ers are leaving. They see the handwriting on the wall.

I concur, such a canned reason for leaving, almost a joke that they can think they can get away with it, but the base buys that crap sandwich all the time...

that doesn't seem like an insurmountable number - he won by 15% in 2016, but 20% in 2014

While it's an R district, 15 points is in play with Trump in the WH

Sabato just shifted this to LIKELY R. That's an improvement, but it's still a stretch, even in a wave election.

..and that nobody has infinite resources of time and money? I focus on the races that MY data scan (which is based on more than Cook and Sabato ratings) says are achievable. That list is growing, but with 6 races already leaning to the Dems, 20 tossups and 20 Lean R seats in play, I can't focus a lot of attention on the outliers until I see some momentum.

Liberals should be more idealistic and bold in our ambitions. Conservatives always talk about finite resources as a way to cut funding for stuff they don't like.

You gotta run away from being in the minority.
Cowardice is the new virtue of the GOP. Maybe Bill Bennett can write a book called the Children’s Book of GOP Values. I don’t mind these clowns “retiring” but it does reveal that public service is all about personal gain to them.

Time? Toll, maybe; but time?

And "...cited the grind of travel to and from Washington." Uh, Mr. Ross, there are quite a few Senators and reps from Hawaii who have a better claim to that than you, whjo served far more than eight years.

You're leaving because your district is turning blue. With Puerto Ricans.

It's a 3 hour plane flight between D.C. and Florida. What "grind"? One can spend that much time stuck in traffic on the beltway. It's not like he has to travel to a west coast state.

And, much as the only Republican candidate for Ryan’s seat is nutty-buddy Paul Nehlen, the only Republican candidate at the moment for Ross’s seat is one Loretta Lax Miller and, well, boy howdy. From her campaign website:

Loretta Miller believes in the Family and Family Values, She feels the family is the core of this government and country. Pizza Gate Falafel Gate no matter what you call it Child abuse , sexual abuse, and mental abuse as well as child slavery, human trafficking will not be tolerated. We need to protect Our Children in Florida as well as all 50 states , the protectives.and the world

Winning!
