Raid on Trump's Lawyer Sought Records on Access Hollywood Tape
Source: New York Times
The F.B.I. agents who raided the office and hotel of President Trumps lawyer on Monday were seeking all records related to the Access Hollywood tape in which Mr. Trump was heard making vulgar comments about women, according to three people who have been briefed on the contents of a federal search warrant.
The search warrant also sought evidence of whether the lawyer, Michael D. Cohen, tried to suppress damaging information about Mr. Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign.
It is not clear what role, if any, Mr. Cohen played regarding the tape, which was made public a month before the election. But the fact that the agents were seeking documents related to the tape reveals a new front in the investigation into Mr. Cohen that is being led by the United States attorneys office in Manhattan.
The disclosure comes a day after it was revealed that the authorities also sought documents from Mr. Cohen related to payments made to two women who claim they had affairs with Mr. Trump, Karen McDougal and Stephanie Clifford, as well as information on the role of the publisher of The National Enquirer in silencing the women.

(43,161 posts)Strange the way that Hollywood tape was just shrugged off. When it came out you thought, "There! That has to be the end of him!"
Wonder if social media psy ops twisted weak minds into thinking it made Donald sexy and masculine, and made HRC simply look old (in comparison to the women mentioned on the tape). We still know so little about subliminal mind control and mass media.

(4,395 posts)Maybe there's evidence of Cohen making an offer to try to suppress it that was ultimately not accepted?

(94,571 posts)FBI agents who raided the home, office and hotel of Donald Trump's personal lawyer sought communications that Trump had with attorney Michael Cohen and others regarding the infamous "Access Hollywood" tape that captured Trump making lewd remarks about women a month before the election, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The warrant's specific reference to Trump is the first known direct mention of the President in a search warrant, and sources said it appeared in connection with "Access Hollywood."
One of the sources said the warrant also referenced an investigation into wire fraud and bank fraud. CNN previously reported FBI agents removed Cohen's computer, cell phone, business files and financial documents, according to the source.
The search warrant also sought communications between then-candidate Trump and his associates regarding efforts to prevent disclosure of the tape, according to one of the sources. In addition, investigators wanted records and communications concerning other potential negative information about the candidate that the campaign would have wanted to contain ahead of the election. The source said the warrant was not specific about what this additional information would be.

(1,237 posts)I doubt that the FBI would be executing raids based on just an attempt to suppress the tape. Both parties had motivation to bury the tape, im sure it didn't take much to convince NBC to not release it.

(128,980 posts)that with the release of the tape, a number of women had come forward attempting to tell their sexual assault stories and the investigation might actually relate to Cohen trying to pay them off to keep them out of the news.
One other idea that wasn't broached was that Cohen knew the tape was out there and was probably trying to keep it from being leaked, but perhaps doing so by making the type of "mafia-like threats" that he is known for.... But it eventually got out there anyway. Perhaps some of those staff who were on the receiving end of any "threats" might have come forward and provided "proof".
