The chairman of the Senate Budget Committee is floating the idea of getting rid of the Budget panel altogether, according to Republican sources.
Senate Budget Committee Chairman Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) has noted that mounting deficits are making it much tougher to pass a spending blueprint, the sources say.
Enzi's seemingly radical suggestion comes as a special bipartisan committee prepares to hold its first hearing on reforming the budgetary process, which Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), a former House Budget Committee chairman, this weekend called "irreparably broken."

"With their tax law polling in the gutter, the one major Republican accomplishment is that they've managed to lose all credibility on the deficit and the budget," said a Senate Democratic aide.

(338 posts)This is just more Republican deflection from selfie incrimination. It can't possibly be their inequitable, spendthrift, dim-witted policies that are failing. It's the process! It's the committees! It's the agencies! It's the English language. It's teachers! It's voters! It's Soros! It's Obama! It's Clinton! It's the Other Her! It's the Other, Other Her! It's the ultra-radical extreme fake media! It's the lazy blacks! It's the LBGTQRSTs! It's *your* fault!
Getting rid of one's own Senate committee is just another case of this deflection. It's another way for clueless Repubs to play their victimization card. Here's imaginary Sen. Ben Craven (R-Everywhere):
"Until we can permanently shut down government altogether except of course for vital military spending and high-bracket negative-income taxes across the board, we'll just have to work very hard to ... REFORM stuff! Or blow it all up if we somehow can't reform it despite our hegemonic power. Yeah, that's it, that's the ticket. That's why I'm immediately getting aboard a pricey chartered flight with 20 of my staffers and security agents and jetting to an unnamed, quiet, no-nonsense Black Sea reso... I mean, conference center, where we'll spend a week or two working out the details with, um, uh, a team of very smart, uh, international consultants. Yeah, that's it."
We ask how could it be that American government worked reasonably well for decades and even centuries, through civil war, world wars, cold wars, and economic depressions one after another. Yet it's all broken now. How did that happen, anyway? [the Repubs collectively check their watches, look up at the Capitol dome, then whistle aimlessly, hoping Elvis or something equally startling passes through the rotunda.]
