Democratic FCC Commissioner stepping down

Source: The Hill

Federal Communications Commissioner Mignon Clyburn on Tuesday announced that she would be stepping down from her post at the agency.

Her resignation follows months of anticipation that she would leave the agency.

The Democratic Commissioner has held her post at the FCC since being nominated by former President Obama and confirmed by the Senate in 2009.

She briefly served as interim FCC chairwoman for five months in 2013, the first woman to hold the distinction.

They have to replace her with a Democrat so there will be no change in the partisan totals.

But given Deumpf's track record for not providing lists of nominees (let alone vetted ones), it will probably sit vacant for that reason.

Rather than take up nominations one-by-one, it has become common to "pair" a republican nominee and a Democratic nominee and consider/confirm them at the same time. For example, last August, Brendan Carr (R) and Jessica Rosenworcel (D) were paired for confirmation to fill two open seats at the FCC.

There is less reason to do this now that nominees can't be filibustered, but it wouldn't surprise me if its handled that way.

i.e., "holds". But at this point, they will probably slow-walk it. They have nothing to lose.
