Starbucks to Shut 8,000 U.S. Stores for Racial-Bias Training After Arrests

Starbucks said on Tuesday it would close more than 8,000 of its stores in the United States on May 29 to conduct racial-bias training for nearly 175,000 employees.
The move comes amid an outcry prompted by the arrests of two African-American men at a Starbucks location in Philadelphia last week.
Ive spent the last few days in Philadelphia with my leadership team listening to the community, learning what we did wrong and the steps we need to take to fix it, Kevin R. Johnson, the companys chief executive, said in a statement announcing the training.
The two men were arrested after asking to use the restroom in the shop. An employee refused their request, because the men had not bought anything, according to officials. The men sat down and were asked to leave, and an employee eventually called the police. The prosecutors office in Philadelphia reviewed the case and declined to pursue charges against the men because of a lack of evidence that a crime was committed, according to a spokesman.

(6,045 posts)Isnt that the same as their Blonde Roast? I knew for years their Blonde Roast was not posted on any of their store menus but on their secret menu like several other items & you had to know it was their & ask for it! But then I thought one of the employees told me the Blonde & Breakfast were the same...Light roast with a high caffeine content.
Regardless, Im with you, Starbucks has good coffee...Yes, other places mostly smaller establishments run by coffee enthusiasts will have even better blends. But not everyone lives near one of those places & for me & many others Starbucks is the next best thing!
However, I will say this...If you have never tried DEATH WISH COFFEE it is by far one of the best Ive ever had! Although, if you dont like a coffee with a caffeine kick then STAY AWAY! They advertise as The Strongest Coffee in the World...Whether that is true or not I dont know, I doubt it, but I certainly felt it when I began drinking it. Still do on that 1st cup in the AM!!
However the favor is the best part...I drink all my coffee black no sugar or cream & the flavor is SO GOOD!!
The same company also sells one other blend called VALHALLA JAVA: Odinforce Blend & in terms of flavor is different & I might even even prefer by a tiny tiny bit over Death Wish but while having a bigger caffeine kick than most coffees it doesnt have the KICK of DEATH WISH!!

(37,648 posts)Blonde Roast is a TYPE of line of coffees; it's not a "flavor." Within the Blonde line are its own "flavors." I think "Blonde" just refers to WEAKER coffees.
The regular lineup has the traditional "flavors," like Pike's Peak, Breakfast Blend, Columbian, etc.
I do add a little milk & definitely artificial sweetener.
I think I'll stay away from "Death Wish"! Sounds too strong for me. But generally, I like most coffees. I've bought those pricey grounds from Whole Foods & such. Meh...not worth the money. They smelled good but tasted no different from much cheaper brands.
Mmmmm....coffee in the morning! I was raised on it. My grandparents would even have coffee in the afternoons for visitors, like the British have tea. They'd sit around in smokey rooms, talking French and drinking coffee & smoking. The good ol' days.

(2,650 posts)I used to say starbucks was over-roasted, bitter, and over-priced. That takes too long to say.
Burned Crap is shorter and more to the point! Thanks. I'm stealing that.

(37,648 posts)He's doing both: saying and doing. Proactive. And that's a good thing. I recognize good. Whether it results in anything is irrelevant.
No, people's minds can't be changed by others. But the other option is to say and do nothing. And that certainly would not have results.
So I recognize attempts at doing something.
