U.S. appeals court blocks Indiana 'selective' abortion law

Source: Reuters

(Reuters) - A federal appeals court on Thursday declared unconstitutional an Indiana law signed by then-Governor Mike Pence that banned women from having abortions because of the gender, race or disability, including Down’s syndrome, of their fetuses.

The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago said the 2016 ban on “selective” abortions imposed an “undue burden” on the ability to have the procedure.

It rejected Indiana’s suggestion that women’s privacy rights covered only the “binary choice” of whether or not to have a child, not whether to terminate particular pregnancies, including for genetic disabilities.

“The Supreme Court has been clear: the State may inform a woman’s decision before viability, but it cannot prohibit it,” Circuit Judge William Bauer wrote for a 3-0 panel of Republican-appointed judges.

Or, why do they hate the rule of law so much. No sarcasm in that statement. By their own admission, when it comes to equality under the law some are more equal than others.

Sure, Trump has been loading the courts at full speed, but his picks don't seem to have much loyalty on non-financial issues.

Just this week, Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch crossed over to be the deciding vote against his immigration order. It was overshadowed by other news, but that had to sting.

this won’t stop the reprehensible right from contriving and propagating ridiculous lies about the ruling, such as Democrats ‘approve’ of ‘genocide’ – and other such idiocy.

Dysfunctional, or abusive homes. The rep are busy, busy destroying everything , anything that could help them, school lunch, snap, wick, housing assistance. Children are not cheap and if the law forces women to have them, regardless of reasons not to for the women, then what becomes of these children? Having babies that aren’t wanted for many reason puts both mother and child at greater risk of poverty and abuse. But no more food or help to feed them anymore or head start to give them a boost. Have those babies. Pop them out. But don’t ask your government to help you feed them if you can’t. I guess we will turn into a shit country. I’m glad the courts are holding up roe v wade.
