1 injured in shooting at Florida high school, authorities say

Source: CNN

(CNN)A student was wounded and a suspect is in custody after a shooting Friday morning at a high school in Ocala, Florida, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

The student was shot in the ankle, said Kevin Christian, Marion Public Schools spokesman.

Authorities asked residents to avoid the area of Forest High School, which was surrounded by emergency vehicles and buses transporting students away from the scene.

The shooting comes on the same day as a National School Walkout against gun violence. It's been more than two months since the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, where 17 students and teachers were killed.

1. The GOP's and NRA's solution...arm school doors with guns.

Maybe some of their shooting range targets should have guns, too......

From the article (snip):

"The father of a witness to the shooting told the newspaper that the shooter was standing in the hallway and shot at a classroom door that was shut – then dropped the weapon, ran and tried to hide.

Authorities took the suspect into custody shortly after. The person’s identity was not released and investigators have not given details about a suspected motive.

The shooting at a public high school prompted panic in the city of nearly 60,000 people. Parents rushed to the school to pick up rattled children, only to be directed elsewhere by Sheriff’s deputies.

It's a miracle no one was killed or seriously injured here. My daughter is a teacher and these events scare the hell out of me.

"We've been told that we need to listen to the children and do what the children ask. Are there any children on this floor? Are there any children making laws? Do we allow the children to tell us that we should pass a law that says no homework? Or you finish high school at the age of 12 just because they want it so? No. The adults make the laws because we have the age, we have the wisdom, and we have the experience." - Florida Republican, Elizabeth Porter, taking on schools kids lucky enough to not get shot and demanding changes to gun control laws before they are killed, March 8, 2018.

Well, Ms Porter...? Can you demonstrate your age, wisdom, and experience here?

To the gun industry, dead children are merely collateral damage/acceptable losses for gun industry profits and political donations.

Think Puerto Rico hurricane and pre-9/11 (Bush).

Thanks for posting that. Ms. Porter's wisdom should tell her to bolster school security (see my post #4, below) and start listening to our youth. They will own her soon!

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — A gunman who carried a shotgun in a guitar case opened fire Friday in a Florida high school, wounding one student before he was arrested on a day planned for a national classroom walkout to protest gun violence, authorities said.

It happened at Forest High School, which was put on lockdown, the Marion County Sheriff's Office reported. A 17-year-old boy was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening wound to his ankle.

Some students and teachers piled desks and filing cabinets against classroom doors as a makeshift barricade.

Police initially said the 19-year-old suspect is also a student at the school, but later said he was a former student not currently enrolled. No charges were immediately announced.
