Ryan explains decision to dismiss House chaplain

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) told the House Republican Conference Friday morning that he fired Chaplain Patrick Conroy because members felt like their pastoral needs were not being met and not for a political reason, according to several Republicans inside the room.
Ryan told members his decision to ask Conroy to step aside had nothing to do with politics, a policy conflict or a prayer.
A number of lawmakers had approached Ryan and told him they needed someone in the chaplains role who could offer more spiritual counseling, according to Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.), who attended the meeting. Ryan agreed, he told the members.
Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.) also told The Hill that Ryan insisted during the private meeting that the dismissal was not done for any politician reasons, but because it was just time for a change.

(22,757 posts)of course... Conroy did not give (Congressional Republicans) spiritual approval for the righteousness of making the poor suffer needlessly more than they already do

(16,091 posts)Means they want a chaplain that believes in "Prosperity Gospel" teachings!!!
Ryan is a liar and those that approached him are cowards...

(12,591 posts)It didn't sound like Ryan had any conversation with the chaplain before he canned him. I read one of the chaplain's prayers where he asked God to guide the congressmen in working to end the huge discrepancy in income in the country, and to protect the poor, aged and infirm.
No wonder the Repugs got upset.
With so much real work to be done, Ryan chooses instead to do the most trivial --and yet somehow vindictive -- action he can take.

Tell the real reason, Ryan. Did he rub you the wrong way? Put your conscience in a tizzy over the tax giveaway? Sometimes, the truth makes your insides quiver, don't they, Ryan? You KNEW that was wrong and the chaplain was just trying to make you Republicans feel a little nervous over the greed. Jesus probably would have done the same...money changers.
I hope you sleep well at night. Don't worry, you'll be gone soon.
