Suspected police-killer John Williams caught by authorities on 4th day of massive manhunt

Source: Portland Press Herald

NORRIDGEWOCK — Suspected police-killer John Williams was apprehended alive early Saturday afternoon in a wooded area of Fairfield, ending a nationwide manhunt that lasted four days and involved some 200 officers.

Williams, who is accused of killing Somerset County Sheriff’s Cpl. Eugene Cole in Norridgewock early Wednesday morning, was taken into custody just after 12:30 p.m. in the area of Box 807 Route 139, also known as Norridgewock Road, in Fairfield.

Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said simply in a statement at 12:55 p.m.: “Manhunt over.” He said more details would come later.

Around 1:15 p.m., Williams — shirtless, barefoot and with his chest and arm tattoos clearly visible — could be seen being taken out of a wooded area by police behind a red, cape-style house. Williams appeared exhausted, his bearded face appearing dirty or scraped from days on the run. He was given a yellow blanket to cover himself up from the waist down. Williams was put into the backseat of an unmarked state police vehicle with detectives and driven away.

It's been pretty cool and rainy here since Wednesday - and he wasn't prepared at all for it.

I had to drive through Norridgewock near the search area yesterday and today - pretty scary.

On the way back we saw a big electronic sign saying "It's Over!" just outside of town.

One less gun nut to deal with....

His last days of "freedom" were pure fear and frustration for sure. Unless he could find a natural path (made by humans or animals) he was struggling with thorns, sticks, and thick growth the duration of his time. Given that it took the cops days to find him, he likely was off any trails.

.... favor if he had taken care of things himself.

BTW I'm opposed to the death penalty because it costs too much, it takes too long,
in most cases the person being put to death is not the same person who committed
the crime, and in some cases the lawyers that they get aren't the best in their fields.

I have zero sympathy for that maggot but my heart breaks for the family and friends
of the slain officer.

Not surprised he was taken alive. He's not an African American man.

He was once a beautiful baby in his mother's arms.

What happened?

He had a troubled past.

He was born in Texas - I don't know how he came to Maine

He left his home in high school and was taken in by a local mom.

He was class president in his sophomore year. I know lots of people that worked at that high school - AND NONE OF THEM REMEMBER HIM!

After he killed the the deputy- he left his body on the lawn of the mom that took him in - so sick.

He then robbed the convenience store I use - then fled into the woods.

The fear in our locale was as bad as Boston after the Marathon Bombing.

Something has to change...

with a good future ahead of him. What happened? Something did.

I'm sure drugs are involved. But drugs are the symptom. Something went very wrong with him.

I read earlier that he had a tattoo that said "Come Take It", apparently a gun-humper slogan.

But he has one on his chest here that I can't make out.
