SEOUL (Reuters) - South Korean President Moon Jae-in said U.S. President Donald Trump deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to end the standoff with North Korea over its nuclear weapons program, a South Korean official said on Monday.

“President Trump should win the Nobel Peace Prize. What we need is only peace,” Moon told a meeting of senior secretaries, according to a presidential Blue House official who briefed media.

Moon and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Friday pledged to end hostilities between the two countries and work towards the “complete denuclearization” of the Korean peninsula in the first inter-Korean summit in more than a decade.

Trump is preparing for his own summit with Kim, which he said would take place in the next three to four weeks.

Don't collect your prize just yet Mr. President, North Korea has a long history of breaking deals.
I don't suppose trump will take any of the blame if it all goes south anyway. Long and short answer are the same, No.

This whole Korea thing feels like one big con.

Trump gets into office and turns up rhetoric.

North Korea just magically advances its nuclear capability (thanks Russia/China?)

North Korea does a complete reversal.

South Korea leader praises Trump for tough talk and brining Jong-un to table.

Who made that happen for Trump? What did Trump hang over Moon to get him to say that?

Trump is SOOOOOO desperate to get that Nobel to validate him at home and abroad. Asshole. Always about the prize and not the hard work to get it.

Trump's will be bigger and more significant of course, because he accomplished (maybe) what no other president had done -- bring peace to the Korean peninsula. What'll you bet he and his sycophants start lobbying the Nobel committee to rescind Obama's award?

There's only slight improvements over time or declining conditions or things stay relatively the same.

For example, there were several end zone celebrations when Russia abandoned Communism, but the people suffered there economically. Putin, and his gang of thugs, assumed control and the world has been suffering ever since.

The media is over anxious to give Trump a big win on something, and they're rushing into the N.K. deal when we have no idea how this will play out over time.

Suckers...

Putin planned this well.. if trump hadn't been a complete idiot, it would have worked. I don't see it happening though.

I'm wondering why the hell South Korea is going along with it though. How long will it be before NK stabs them in the back? I'm guessing not too long... couple years?

From environmental indications over the past year, they need sanctions lifted to be able to feed their people, and they probably need to build new nuclear and rocket test facilities; they supposedly managed to make their mountain test/launch site collapse.

Now would be a good time for them to ease up a bit and be peaceful with their neighbors if the Kim dynasty is to stay in power. For another 5 - maybe up to 10 years before they need to rattle the sword and whip their peasantry into line behind them.
Remember, the current Kim spent quite a bit of time being educated in the West. He may be a dictator and perhaps a sociopath, but he's not stupid.

with their promise to denuclearize. It's all bluster at this point.

In addition, we're not really sure if the DOTUS' involvement had anything to do with Kim's backing down and entering into talks with S. Korea. There's gotta be investigation done to ensure trump did force Kim's hand. I'm not convinced this unstable idiot did anything good except put us through several months of headache and worry.

It's the only way to keep him sedated enough to not blow up a range of complicated negotiations Not unlike France's president. Not unlike Republican congressional leadership, Trump must be praised. Trump "needs" to be on the cover of Time magazine, not anyone else in his Administration. Trump "needs" to be recommended for a Noble Peace prize, not anyone else. He gets surly and mean if he isn't getting the glory. South Korea can't afford that from an American president right now.

The way AFP is reporting it, Moon wasn't saying Trump should win it; he was saying Trump "could have" the Nobel so long as there's peace in Korea.

In other words, he doesn't care whether he wins the Nobel or not, and if Trump wins it, he doesn't really care one way or another, so long as there is peace between the Koreas.
