Andrew Pollack, the father of one of the 17 Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting victims, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against former Broward Sheriff Deputy Scot Peterson, gunman Nikolas Cruz and several others.
Peterson, who was the Parkland schools resource officer at the time of the Feb.14 attack, has come under immense public criticism for failing to enter the building while the shooting was taking place.
Pollacks suit, filed in Broward Circuit Court on Monday, also listed as defendants the estate of Lynda Cruz, James Snead, Kimberly Snead, Henderson Behavioral Health, Jerome Golden Center for Behavioral Health INC, and South County Mental Health Center, INC.

The wrongful death lawsuit is seeking unspecified damages and a trial by jury.

Sure, we expect a bit more out of our police officers, but going in without backup against who-knows-what?

(6,241 posts)Cops arent there to stop the bad things from happening. Theyre there to clean up and investigate things after people are dead. Serve and protect is a nice slogan, but it doesnt mean anything.
The only person responsible for your life and safety is you.

Castle Rock v. Gonzales ruled even if there is a restraining order the police have no duty to enforce the order or to protect the named party.
This suit is a waste of time and will be thrown out. Ironically I believe a suit against the officer for failing to act to protect the school building from damage would be allowed

Except for acting as a catalyst for a larger discussion... as your own contribution here accurately exemplifies.
But I get it... if we see zero dollars or an argument counter to our own narratives, we often dismiss something merely as a waste of time to better validate our biases.

Do you have any reason to believe this case would have any result other than affirming those rulings?
Or are you just being contrary?

(1,204 posts)Included in their lawsuit should be the names of the local Congressman, Senators and Governor who voted against any reasonable gun legislation. The blood is on their hands, too.
