Cheney calls for US to restart interrogation programs
Source: The Hill
BY MORGAN GSTALTER - 05/10/18 12:16 PM EDT
Former Vice President Dick Cheney said Thursday the CIA should restart the controversial enhanced interrogation program used during the George W. Bush administration.
If it were my call, I would not discontinue those programs. I'd have them active and ready to go, Cheney said during an interview with Fox Business. And I'd go back and study them and learn."
Cheney, a former secretary of Defense, has long defended the interrogation program that was launched after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. While critics denounce the techniques that were used as torture, Cheney says the program was necessary to keep the nation safe.
I think the techniques we used were not torture. A lot of people try to call it that, but it wasnt deemed torture at the time, he told Maria Bartiromo. People want to go back and try to rewrite history, but if it were my call, Id do it again.

(14,175 posts)Democratic administrations say things like "Impeachment is off the table" or "We have to look forward, not backwards" for crimes and grave misdemeanors, faster than the press even has the chance to ask them. This results in assholes like Dick Cheney retaining his talk show cred and a semblance of admiration and respect for "serving the American people".
Conversely Republican administrations use every moment they can to demonize our side, and if they don't have any actual crime to accuse us of, they invent crimes out of thin air, create conspiracy theories to support their wild claims. And gawd help you if you even come close to getting caught doing something unsavory, they will unleash holy hell until you resign or are charged.
I'm not asking for Democrats to flip 180 and behave like the disingenuous arrogant hypocrites that are the GOP, but for gawds sake, I wish they'd at least counter with a little more blister and even what would be described as "over the top". Because it puts Republicans on the defensive, the way Democrats are continually being forced to act (or think they must) even though they have no political power. Call them traitors 24/7. Make them sputter and foam at the mouth because they were called traitors.
