The former prime minister of Australia this week compared the frequent "lock her up" chants against Hillary Clinton that pop up at Trump rallies to the Salem witch trials.
Julia Gillard, Australia's first female prime minister, told Clinton in a discussion in her country on Thursday that she was "dismayed" by the pervasive chants against Clinton, which were common during candidate Donald Trump's presidential campaign rallies and are still frequently heard at President Trump's rallies, including as recently as last week in Indiana.
"It just dismayed me that for you, this ended up with chants of 'lock her up' or 'string her up' at Republican rallies," Gillard said. "It's like the Salem witch trials."
Clinton attributed the chants to a "very vocal minority" of voters, during a wide-ranging discussion focused on women in politics at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

(22,124 posts)They still chant 'Lock her up' despite being investigated by multiple senate committees, who found absolutely nothing. Nothing.
Yet, they won't beyond the tip of their noses at themselves and RUMP...now you tell me, who's worse?
I think we all know the resounding answer to this ?...

(13,041 posts)i was horrified and am still horrified at the things that happen at these rallies. This country is taking a turn for the worse every day that this dangerous, ill man is in office.

(4,490 posts)and other calls for execution by various Republicans, I'd say that's accurate. Obviously different circumstances, but same intent. I sincerely think they were hoping for a Gabrielle Giffords type attack.

(58,785 posts)was struck because I figured it was written centuries ago for the behaviors of just this kind of people. Unlike the wicked people in Salem, the one item the lock-her-up sinners are not guilty of in 25 years of hateful behaviors toward Hillary is, of course, shedding her innocent blood, but that's because she doesn't live with them in a village they could come to boil as a mob in.
Although, if she did, she'd no doubt be one of the leaders of her local "women's league" and things would never get out of line. Seriously, good leadership would make a huge difference in these people, whom leaders have been encouraging to be their worst selves since the 1980s.
16 There are six things the Lord hates,
seven that are detestable to him:
17 haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,
18 a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,
19 a false witness who pours out lies
and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.
