Stage stormed during UK's Eurovision song
Source: BBC
A man stormed the stage while the UK's entry, SuRie, was performing at the Eurovision Song Contest.
SuRie was singing her song Storm when a man wearing a rucksack ran onto the stage, grabbed her microphone, and appeared to say: "Nazis of the UK media, we demand freedom."
He was swiftly dragged off stage and SuRie continued performing the song.

The invader is in police custody, the European Broadcasting Union said. He is understood to be a European citizen but not British.

This is in Lisbon. I guess I'm going to have to watch it now to find out what's going on.

(58,785 posts)The headline raised expectations that were not justified, Muriel. I felt a crowd "storming" the stage of this concert could be a significant political event, and it turned out to be a nothingburger lone protester.

(101,316 posts)(b) Neither I nor the BBC are responsible for your expectations. A protester taking the microphone at an event seen by about 180 million people live is significant.

(58,785 posts)you did, starting by moving your cursor to the beginning of the headline. I'm left, as before, to guess that you either just didn't notice how misleading it was or liked it and wanted to start your thread with it.

(101,316 posts)Amazingly, you need a refresher. This is the LBN Statement of Purpose, and what you see in a big red "STOP" warning every time you start a thread in this forum:

But if you ever decide to start an LBN thread, you'll know, now.

Clearly a minor incident at a foreign singing competition does not qualify as "important news". But whatev, this is DU.

(58,785 posts)I did miss that this was posted in breaking news, Muriel. Disinformation in headlines could be left behind, not brought to DU, by choosing to post in the GD forum instead.
Frankly, though, I think refusing to spread dishonest reporting is more important than strict adherence to rules. That is, unless the dishonesty of a headline itself is of political interest and the opportunity taken to discuss that, such as its proposed intended effects.
Of course, in this case it looks like the editors just wanted to pull people in to generate clicks. Bye.
