Former US President George H W Bush taken to hospital

Former US President George H.W. Bush, 93, was taken to a hospital in Maine on Sunday after experiencing low blood pressure and fatigue, a family spokesman said on Twitter.

Bush, the oldest living former US president, will likely remain at Southern Maine Health Care for a few days for observation, said the spokesman, Jim McGrath.

"The former president is awake and alert, and not in any discomfort," McGrath wrote on Twitter.

Bush was hospitalised in Texas last month for treatment of an infection that spread to his blood, and stayed there for nearly two weeks. He was admitted to the hospital a day after he attended the funeral of his wife, Barbara, the former first lady who died on April 17. The couple had been married for 73 years.

Long enough to rot in jail.

since this is the father, as the body makes clear. I think you could add an 'H' to keep things clear - I expect they will soon.

But if he doesn't, it wouldn't surprise me. When a long-married person loses a spouse, they tend to follow rather quickly.

'Died of a broken heart' isn't just a romantic notion; it actually happens.

As a reformed Republican (I cast my last vote for the -R- party in 1992), he was the first President I ever voted for.

I suppose there's a part of my now-unshakably liberal heart that still has some respect for the old man. Unlike his repuke successors, including his cowardly, feckless son, he actually served his country.
