Vermont governor signs bill to pay people $10K to move to state and work remotely
Source: The Hill
Vermont Gov. Phil Scott (D) has signed a bill into law that will pay people $10,000 if they move to the state and work for an out-of-state employer remotely.
The bill, which is scheduled to take effect on Jan. 1, 2019, has budgeted grants for nearly 100 new remote workers in the first three years of the program, and 20 more workers per year for every year afterward.
Under the terms of bill, a new remote worker may be eligible for a grant under the program for qualifying remote worker expenses in the amount of not more than $5,000.00 per year, not to exceed a total of $10,000.00 per individual new remote worker over the life of the program.
Remote worker expenses that qualify for the grant include the purchase of computer software and hardware, broadband access or upgrade, and membership in a co-working or similar space.

I had a chat yesterday with Steve Marchand, candidate for Governor in New Hampshire, who said they had the same problem: an aging population and an inability to attract workers.

(59,504 posts)(Burlington is there) In addition, Rutland was expecting 100 Syrians at the point that Trump stopped it with his Muslim ban. Vermont has Vietnamese, Bhutanese, Somalian, DRC, Iraqi and Syrian refugees that I know of.
Care to compare with Ohio??

Likely not.
These f'ers always say they'll do this and they'll do that but the reality is, they don't really care to do so.
WHO is their right mind would move to Vermont for $10K hoping for the best?

(17,946 posts)Seriously, I find that interesting. I'd move in a heartbeat simply because I'd at least have some elected officials I could be proud of or at least respect. I get nauseous just thinking about mine. Roy Copper and Josh Stein excluded.

So yeah, I'm game but I doubt I could tear my wife away from her grandchildren and the warm weather here in Florida.
Man I'd love to have Larry, Darryl and Darryl come visit me though.

(12,132 posts)(we were watching some new crime show that was set partly in Sweden and the folks had on sweaters) that I wished we lived somewhere a nice sweater like that would make sense. The older I get, the more I am attracted to sweaters. But here in FL it makes zero sense. At least, until I get into my 90s like my grandpa did - he had some light sweaters (think more Mr. Rogers style) but I like the looks of those thick sweaters.
She just looked at me like she was figuring how much a divorce would cost so I dropped it.
