Poll: Obama Opens Big Lead Over Romney On Women’s Issues
Source: TPM
Voters see President Obama as far more in touch with the problems women face, a new poll from CNN finds. On who is more in touch with women voters, Obama leads Romney 60 percent to 30 percent among likely voters. Among registered voters, Obama leads 62 percent to 27 percent.
As Romney heads to the Republican National Convention, the poll shows Obama leading when it comes to personal characteristics and relating to voters. On who is more "in touch with the problems facing middle class Americans," Obama leads 53 percent to 39 percent among likely voters and 58 percent to 33 percent among registered voters. Obama also leads on the question of who cares about "the needs of people like you" by 13 points among likely voters and 20 points among registered voters.
Romney's strengths come on questions of competence and leads Obama slightly on who would run government more effectively.

(49,022 posts)my best guess is that the poll results on those questions show Republicans and right-leaning independents trying to come up with SOME reason to justify voting for Romney, and that's all they've got.

(49,022 posts)It's not just the poor, elderly, and people of color affected by these laws. It's women. Lots of women. Women who change their names on their Social Security card but wait to change them on their license until the next renewal. Women who use both names. Many, many women. The fallout is just beginning and time is short.
People need to understand how these Voter ID laws disenfranchise ordinary people -- Republican AND Democrat -- for reasons that are bogus, stupid, and discriminate against women.

Strict photo-ID requirements and proof-of-citizenship laws also particularly affect women who change their name after getting married or divorced. Because updating documentation takes time and money, these laws create an additional barrier for low-income women. According to the Brennan Center, only 66 percent of voting-age women had ready access to proof-of-citizenship documentation with their current legal name.
