Israeli, American Jews deeply divided on Trump: poll
Source: The Hill
BY JULIA MANCHESTER - 06/10/18
Israeli and American Jews are deeply divided on issues related to President Trump, according to a new poll from the American Jewish Committee (AJC).
More than three-quarters (77 percent) of Israeli Jews surveyed said they approved of U.S.-Israeli relations under Trump, while only 34 percent of American Jews said they felt the same way.
Over half 57 percent of American Jews said they disapproved of Trump's handling of U.S.-Israeli relations, while just 10 percent of Israeli Jews said the same.
The poll also revealed a significant split between Israeli and U.S. Jews on the U.S. embassy's move to Jerusalem.1:23 AM EDT

Israel is a spoiled child and needs to be grounded. Unlikely with 45 in charge, but still.

(23,158 posts)We are their charity, we fund all their health care and all their military. Of course, they don't care if we have a drop of $ left once we kill our nation in their favor. Looks like Israelis's are almost as murderous as their leaders, despite what many here claim, since a majority like the evil assholes like little murderer and orange assface. Sad! I thought the people of Israel were better than this, but the #'s show otherwise. It's not just bad leaders. At least in America, a majority of us hate our murderous asshole in chief.

Israel has legitimate security concerns on all their borders so it's unsurprising that many on the left, center, and right share similar opinions about security.

(6,401 posts)1. Israel is a know "unofficial" nuclear power. They have the Samson Initiative, which in the case should the Israeli State fall to Arab/Persian enemies, they turn the Mid-East into glass. That alone has been enough of a factor to stop any direct war. You could say, it's why their enemies pursue the paths they do.
2. Israel is not surrounded by enemies. They have peace treaties with both Egypt and Jordan. Lebanon as a nation hasn't been much of a direct actor, it's largely regulated to Hezbollah. You could even say that Israel created that problem much like did with Hamas. So that leaves a very small border where enemies could attack...and one of them is actually Israeli occupied Syrian Territory.
Again, he's making things worse for the cause rather than help it.

Hamas attacks them from the south, maybe you heard about the violence going on the last few weeks.
Hezbollah in the north controls southern Lebanon and continues try to kidnap Israeli soldiers. They have kidnapped several in the past. They claim that they have more than 100,000 rockets aimed at Israel.
Looking east, you have that psycho Assad, along with Iran shooting rockets into Israel and sending in the occasional Iranian drone.
As for Jordan, they are experiencing massive demonstration in the past week, and there are concerns that the Hashemite regime may fail.

(26,060 posts)Instead of just being snarky because I don't see anything false in that post other than the east/west thing. Go ahead and tell all of us how Israel is not being barraged by hamas to the west, Lebanon from the north (hezbollah via iran) and Syria from the east (both al assad and isis).

Edit: I'm presuming it was a typo, we all make them. Just saying unfortunate typo for context, given the concerns about aiming just rocks, not rockets, allegedly geting overreactions.

(16,363 posts)An Iranian general had this to say about Lebanon.
IRGC General: With 74 Seats in Parliament, Hezbollah has Made Lebanon a Resistance State
A powerful Iranian general said that Hezbollah, which with its allies controls 74 seats in parliament after last months vote, has turned Lebanon into a Resistance state, Irans semi-official Mehr News reported Tuesday.
Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the commander of Irans Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)- Qods Force, said, Hezbollah for the first time won 74 seats out of 128 Lebanese parliamentary seats, thus it has transformed into a Lebanese Resistance state from a Lebanese Resistance political party, and this is a great victory.
Lebanons recent election was a referendum. The election came at a time when everybody was accusing Hezbollah of interfering in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen and the region as a whole, the general added.
Despite Hezbollah transforming Lebanon into a Resistance state, Soleimanei denied that Hezbollah was engaged in terrorism, describing the group as the nicest and most decent political movement.

(53,991 posts)Of course, some of the comments here are just ignorant because of course Israelis are going to respond to a poll about Israel in regards to their own country. Duh! It is also not surprising the American Jews are deeply lop-sided against the current president, his administration, and his policies, but that seems to be lost on many, and for a few, the fact that some Jews aren't opposed (or as opposed) to the administration, well, then we (Jews as a whole) are some how diminished.
And, as expected, the reality Jews face is of no interest to most,
For example, on President Trumps job performance, 26% found it favorable and 71% unfavorable.
55% report that the status of Jews in the U.S. is less secure than a year ago, while 18% say it is more secure and 24% about the same. On this question, the political divide is striking, as 70% of those who voted for Clinton, and 24% for Trump, say Jews are less secure, and those who say Jews are more secure are 8% of Clinton and 41% of Trump supporters. For 20% of Clinton and 32% of Trump supporters, the status is the same.
And, if elections for Congress were held today, 20% would vote for the Republican candidate, 67% for the Democrat, and 3% for another party.
But, hey, it is an article where people can vent their spleen at Israel and Israelis, and "tut-tut" Jews as a whole. Furthermore, the above excerpt demonstrates the American Jews are...gasp...AMERICANS! Can't have that now, can we?!

(11,260 posts)Clearly, American Jews are staunchly Democratic- the ones who arent tend to be hard core capitalists (eg Paul Singer) or nationalists for Israel or both (Adelson). Israel is clearly hard right with their unwavering support of the awful Likud. Bring back Rabin

(53,991 posts)But from articles and comments on sites like this, no, one would not come to the conclusion that Jews are staunchly democratic despite facts from poll after poll; thus my original remark about the lack of being monolith (I shouldn't have to add, but apparently do, Israelis aren't monolith either). As for Israel, you really would benefit from actually learning about the state rather than spewing pointless rhetoric.

(21,632 posts)drumpf is pushing an evangelical agenda at home while pushing Bibi's agenda in Israel. Great times if you are an Israeli when the USA has just declared you the only relevant state in the region (which we did by moving the embassy, no matter what anyone says). horrible times in the USA if you aren't a white male evangelical.
all politics is local.
