Trump officials kick into damage-control mode with Canada

Source: Politico

By MEGAN CASSELLA 06/11/2018 10:37 AM EDT

A day after President Donald Trump and his top advisers went on the attack against Canada, members of his Cabinet are taking steps to preserve and strengthen ties with the U.S.’ nearest ally.

In one step of the change in tone, the Department of Agriculture announced Monday that Secretary Sonny Perdue would head to Canada later this week to meet with his counterpart Lawrence MacAulay.

The trip and photo-op are intended to showcase ongoing cooperation on agriculture between the two nations. The visit also comes as Trump himself has repeatedly criticized Canada’s high tariffs on U.S. dairy products in particular that enter the Canadian market.

In addition, White House trade adviser Peter Navarro further antagonized relations when he remarked on Sunday that “there’s a special place in hell” for Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who he said engaged in “bad-faith diplomacy” with Trump.

Trump is going ballistic because he did not expect Canada to be so tough. He thought that they would just roll over.

Not a chance.

So now he is making Trudeau the target, personally bullying him and projecting his fears about being discovered for who Trump really is onto him: "weak" and "dishonest".

Putin pours more champagne.

Some in drumpfs admin. are going into damage-control mode (Pompeo) but others continue the bomb throwing like Kudlow and Navarro. drumpf is an evil menace to the entire world and I hope Canada follows through with massive tariffs on farm items since so many farmers voted for him and deserve the fruits of their efforts. Unfortunately, the rest of us will suffer somewhat as well, but drumpf needs accountability forced on him since all he does is lie and destroy.

I would tell Pompeo:

"A senior member of your administration just said publicly that there is a special place in hell for our very popular Prime Minister. As long as this man is not removed and that statement publicly repudiated by your president, I think that, beyond tourism, we don't have a lot to say to each other right now. If you want to get in touch, you can leave a message for us at the Canadian Interests Section of the Swiss Embassy. Otherwise, you can reach us at that special place in hell you seem to know so much about."

If Trump keeps destroying our democracy and country at the present rate, Americans will probably start pouring across the U.S./Canadian border asking for asylum. Then we'll see how Trump reacts when he's at the opposing side of the predicament.

I've joked to friends here that they'd probably see refugees pouring across the border to get away from Trump. Alas, it seems that that joke may become reality.

After Trump insulted the entire country and then two of his lackeys got on national TV to savage them some more the head asshole needs to fire them and make a public apology to the Canadian nation and its leader!

Anything less is total BS!
