The Latest: Gov signs 6 gun control measures in New Jersey

Source: Associated Press

Updated 4:40 pm, Wednesday, June 13, 2018

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — The Latest on New Jersey's passing of tighter gun control laws (all times local):

12:15 p.m.

New Jersey is enacting measures to tighten its already strict gun control laws.

Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy signed the half-dozen bills Wednesday at the state's justice building in Trenton. The measures began moving this year after the lethal high school shooting in Parkland, Florida, that left 17 people dead. Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Alfonso Calderon joined Murphy on stage.

. . .

One bill requires the seizure of firearms when a mental health professional determines someone poses a threat, and another requires background checks for private gun sales.

..lifelong NJ guy here. Murphy has kept his promises that got him elected on guns, and is doing his level best with regard to legalizing weed and millionaire taxes.

But unfortunately too many of his "allies" in the State house (which is in fact controlled by Democrats) are trying to do everything they can to stymie his efforts (and since it's all stuff he actually ran his winning campaign on, the will of the people of NJ).

This, coupled with what is going on in the NY statehouse as well goes a long way towards explaining my own skepticism of all of the "All we need to do is elect Dems and everything will be great!!!" types on here and elsewhere.
