Florida: No 'red flags' from those improperly given permits

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam says nearly 300 people who improperly received concealed weapons permits from his department did not pose a risk to public safety.

Putnam's department last year revoked concealed weapons permits from 291 people after discovering an employee had failed to complete all of the required background checks. The error wasn't widely known until it was reported last week.

Putnam on Wednesday maintained there was no "red flags" with the 291 people. They had passed criminal background checks but had been flagged for other reasons.

Citing confidentiality laws, the department has refused to disclose the identities of the people whose permits were revoked.

It seems that they put out a statement saying they will no longer make contributions....or...whatever....but the damage has been done.
