GOP lawmakers demand drafts of DOJ report on Clinton email investigation

Republican Reps. Andy Biggs (Ariz.), Ron DeSantis (Fla.) and Matt Gaetz (Fla.) are requesting all unrevised drafts of the Department of Justice's (DOJ) report on the procedures it used during the investigation into Hillary Clinton's email use.

In a letter sent to DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz on Thursday, the lawmakers -- all members of the House Judiciary Committee -- argue congressional oversight is needed, as drafts were circulated within the DOJ and FBI before the report was made public.

"Your team has worked to ensure that this report is thorough and accurate; however, an investigation of this magnitude and consequence deserves heightened scrutiny to ensure that the process has not been compromised in any way," they wrote. "The trust of the America people depends on it. We are concerned that during this time, people may have changed the report in a way that obfuscates your findings." The lawmakers noted the DOJ has previously rebuked requests for documents related to the investigation, adding they don't believe the security concerns cited by the agency are valid.

"Unfortunately, over the past year, the DOJ has repeatedly fought requests by Congress to produce documents related to this investigation, and when the DOJ actually provided documents, the materials have been heavily redacted," they continued. "Past and present DOJ officials have asserted security concerns, even though the documents have not legitimately contained security issues."
