Tents are going up near El Paso for children being separated from immigrant parents

TORNILLO — With the number of immigrant children separated from their parents reaching nearly 2,000, this small town in far west Texas is preparing for young Central Americans who will be housed in a temporary shelter on the border with Mexico.

At least one white tent is already visible at the Tornillo-Marcelino Serna Port of Entry, about a 30-minute drive southeast from El Paso. The shelter was last used in 2016 when a surge of Central Americans — migrant children and families — were housed here.

The drama being played out here is a result of the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" immigration policy first announced by Attorney General Jeff Sessions in April that requires that all immigrants who cross the border be charged with a crime for illegal entry.

In the past, relatively few immigrants faced criminal charges and most ended up in the civil immigration courts.

Rethugs were very successful at radicalizing at least half the white voters in this country, such that by now almost any atrocity is acceptable - as long as it does (or appears to do) something about the browning of America.

or something like that. Sarah Succubus Sanders and Joseph Goebbels (Stephen Miller) said so.

instead of finding the haven they prayed would be there, away from the horrors they left.

It is still awful.......but at least they have A/C.

They really can't move around in the tents and they have been stingy with any outside activities.

My daughter lives in San Antonio and I don’t visit this time of year until at least October too hot for me. I was worried kids would die.

With temperatures in the triple digits. Inhumane and extreme cruelty from this president will come back to haunt him forever, and lying about who started this with their policy will be remembered, and because he's too much of a coward to admit he and Sessions cooked this up to intentionally hurt the children , and their families of immigrants trying to have a better life. If he went to prison would that be acceptable to him and his family?

"The shelter was last used in 2016 when a surge of Central Americans — migrant children and families — were housed here. "

"and families"

Precedent that children do not have to be taken from their families.

Tent cities have been used as incarceration facilities so there is no legitimate reason to take the children except for Donald's cruelty.
