Cardinal Dolan hits Sessions' use of the Bible to defend family separation: There's 'no Bible passage' that would justify it
BY AVERY ANAPOL - 06/16/18 10:47 AM EDT
Cardinal Timothy Dolan on Friday fired back at Attorney General Jeff Sessions for using the Bible to defend the Trump administrations policy of separating families at the border.
The Archbishop of New York issued a harsh rebuke of the policy, telling CNNs Chris Cuomo that it is un-American.
I don't think we should obey a law that goes against what God intends that you would take a baby, a child, from their mom, he said. I mean, that's just unjust. That's unbiblical. Thats un-American. There could be no bible passage that would justify that.
Gods law trumps mans law, Dolan added.

(4,035 posts)Where the heck are all of the nations legitimate religious institutions leaders? Why have they been so silent on the lies emanating from our fearless leaders mouth? Why have they been so silent when they so often want to preach politics from the pulpit? Why have they been so silent about the disaster in Puerto Rico? Why have they been so silent about other religions that promote utter and complete nonsense? Until now, why have they been so silent about the kidnapping of innocent children from their parents by our own government (my, how Nazi likej and holding them for ransom?
Ive never been one to condone religious organizations preaching politics, but I dont have a problem with them speaking out about right and wrong - REAL right and wrong, not a gun toting Jesus that preaches violence and disruption in the name of the Lord, but standing up for the real values of right and wrong.

A Message from the President of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops During National Migration Week, January 7-13
January 5, 2018
WASHINGTONCardinal Daniel N. DiNardo of Galveston-Houston, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), offers a National Migration Week message to the nation with special gratitude for the gift of immigrants and refugees.
Cardinal DiNardo's statement as follows:
"On Sunday, the Catholic Church across the United States will celebrate the beginning of National Migration Week. For nearly 50 years, this week has been a time of prayer and reflection on our history as a migrant Church and nation. In these five decades, the face of the immigrant may have changed European, Asian, South American, and elsewhere -- but their faces reveal a common desire to secure the great blessings of American opportunity.
Pope Francis, in his statement on the World Day of Peace on January 1, 2018, advises us that if we view the situation of migrants and refugees through the wisdom of our faith 'we discover that they do not arrive empty-handed. They bring their courage, skills, energy and aspirations, as well as the treasures of their own cultures; and in this way, they enrich the lives of the nations that receive them.'
This week, I invite everyone to reflect on the Holy Father's words as well as on your own family's immigration story. Please also join me in prayer for all families, as together, we 'Share the Journey. . . ' toward a better life."

But I've heard many other Christian ministers, priests speaking out against this too. The bigger problem is who gets covered by MSM so they're heard better.

(24,259 posts)the question was asked about ministers, etc speaking out against it and as much as I dislike the man for selling Jesus for profit and misleading people, I feel I should give the devil his due on THIS one for one reason only.
I dislike Franklin Graham intensely but he does seem to have Trump's ear... well, as much as Trump listens to anyone that is... so if there's a chance that by Graham's speaking out he could change Trump's policy on this, good!

Bishop Michael Curry, the minister who electrified the royal wedding between Meghan Markle and Prince Harry with a powerful sermon on love, returned to the US with a message for his countrymen: Love your neighbor.
Curry, the most senior figure in the American Episcopal church, joined Christian faith leaders in a candle-lit vigil and protest procession to the White House on Thursday.
...........................
Organizers said as many as 2,000 people attended the service, with the audience spilling on to the steps of the neoclassical building and an overflow room across the street. As dusk fell, a procession of clergy and people of faith silently carried votive candles from the church to Lafayette Square, a park facing the White House.
The demonstration is part of a wider movement known as Reclaiming Jesus, which was formed by group of progressive Christian leaders, including Curry. They co-signed a declaration of principles that rejects Trumps America first agenda.
