Trump says WaPo staffers should strike: 'We would get rid of Fake News for an extended period of time

BY JACQUELINE THOMSEN - 06/17/18 09:43 AM EDT

President Trump said that Washington Post employees should go on strike in a tweet Sunday morning, saying the move means “we would get rid of Fake News for an extended period of time.”

“Washington Post employees want to go on strike because Bezos isn’t paying them enough. I think a really long strike would be a great idea,” Trump tweeted. “Employees would get more money and we would get rid of Fake News for an extended period of time!” He also floated his past inaccurate claim that the Post is a “registered lobbyist.”

His tweet came shortly after The Post reported that former Trump campaign adviser Roger Stone met with a Russian during the 2016 campaign who offered dirt on Hillary Clinton in exchange for $2 million.

More than 400 Washington Post employees signed an open letter to newspaper owner and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos on Thursday, calling his current offer of a $10 pay raise and no changes to retirement benefits “unfair.”

This bully only stands down when people stand up to him. You know who he never insults? Putin. And Stormy Daniels and her bad-ass lawyer. Everyone else is a paper tiger, and he can smell that shit.

Do we really have no one who knows how to go for the jugular? Asking for a friend.

Actually I think I'm going to write a few of the most promising congresscritters right now and suggest just that. Starting with Harris and Warren.

I've seen some of the CNN commentators call Trump out on his lies, and they actually used the word "lies" when discussing his talking points. Anderson Cooper has done it, as has Don Lemon. They were both particularly fierce about it, which was nice to see. I get most of my news from CNN, so if the big three broadcast networks are pushing back on Trump's narrative, I wouldn't know. No point even mentioning Fox, for obvious reasons.

SE Cupp has also taken a stand against Trump, which is good since she's a conservative commentator on CNN. Ana Navarro has also taken Trump's narrative to task. Neither of them have been afraid to call him out. In my opinion, they represent the undercurrent of Republicans who are aghast at what Trump is doing and how the GOP has caved to him. Some of the #NeverTrumpers didn't go over to the dark side after the election, unlike Mitt Romney and Ted Cruz.

There's a significant amount of polarization going on within the GOP these days. You've got Trump's true believers, and then you've got the moderate Republicans who want no part of him. I wouldn't be surprised if the party fractures because of Trump. If so, it'd be helpful if it happens before 2020. Splitting the conservative vote would make it a lot harder for Putin to screw with the election, and make it a lot easier for the Democratic nominee to win and get us out of this nightmare.

Anything he wants to hurt a business with is ok , especially someone he's jealous of, or opposes him, or really is a billionaire. He also claims fake news, when he's doing the opposite again claiming the truth is fake, and his propaganda is real. The opposite of the truth, that's all he ever does is make phony claims , and lies, a lot . Con man using his position and twitter to promote propaganda with over and over again. The media needs to stop repeating his propaganda talking points every day. Stop showing is tweets, and giving him any airtime. That is what's wrong, the media repeat his lies and propaganda which is helping him use it against us.

Here are a few examples that I found lower down on this thread: (in no particular order, because they're all pretty great)

And this is ridiculous on its face. I used to be a Union steward at the Post, and this fight happens all the time. Strikes are rare; the last one was in 1975. Trump is simply trying to shut down the free press; he's not even trying to hide it.
