The Latest: Audio released of screaming children at border
By Associated Press

WASHINGTON — The Latest on President Donald Trump and immigration (all times EDT):

8 p.m.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz says he is introducing emergency legislation intended to keep migrant families together.

Cruz has released a statement saying: “All Americans are rightly horrified by the images we are seeing on the news, children in tears pulled away from their mothers and fathers. This must stop. Now.”

The Republican senator says his proposal would double the number of federal immigration judges; authorize new temporary shelters that can accommodate families; and mandate that families immigrating illegally be kept together, absent criminal conduct or threat of harm to the children.

Cruz also says his proposal would provide for expedited processing of asylum cases so that, within 14 days, those who meet the legal standards will be granted asylum and whose who don’t will be returned to their home countries immediately.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) will introduce the "Protect Kids and Parents Act" this week, his office announced Monday — the first Republican bill to directly address family migration separation — as global outrage over the Trump administration's policy escalates.

Between the lines: The bill would outlaw the separation of families who cross the border illegally unless there is aggravated criminal activity or potential harm to the child. It would also double the number of immigration judges at the border, authorize new shelters for families, and speed up the asylum adjudication process. Meanwhile, the Texas senator faces re-election in November, and his biggest challenger has far surpassed fundraising expectations.

He's just continuing to play politics with these kids. People will probably fall for it, though. Hurd in Texas has been doing the same to hold onto his seat and folks seem to be buying it.

They'll both turn a blind eye to crimes and injustice committed by their fellow Republicans once their seats are once again secured.

but Republican Senator Rick Santorum used his dead baby to undoubtedly traumatize his living children for life!

Santorum forced his kids to hold his dead baby!
Tuesday January 10, 2012 · 7:40 PM CST

Did you know this about Rick?

He literally forced his other children to hold his dead child after it was dead for about 12+ hours!

I read this awful information in the article "The Path of the Righteous Man":
How Rick Santorum became the nation's evangelical poster boy," written by Mike Newall in Philadelphia Citypaper. (from their 2005 archives)

. . .

Santorum gained national prominence in 1996 when he spearheaded the Republican effort to override President Clinton's veto of the ban on partial-birth abortion. Santorum writes that managing the bill was "one of the most memorable and transforming moments of my life." During the debate, a sonogram showed that a baby Karen was carrying had a fatal birth defect and would die shortly after birth. At 20 weeks, Karen lay in the hospital near death with a 105-degree fever. Doctors warned that Karen could die unless labor was induced — an option the Santorums considered an abortion since it would result in the certain death of the child. Karen went into labor before a decision had to be made.

Gabriel Michael Santorum lived for only two hours. The Santorums spent the night in the hospital bed with their lifeless baby lying between them. The next morning they brought the palm-sized corpse to Karen's parent's house. They had their other children pose for pictures and cuddle with Gabriel. They sang lullabies and held a private mass.

I know there are many parents who name babies who are stillborn or die shortly after birth, have funerals and bury them. But to sleep with a corpse, then have family pictures taken? Santorum's wife even published a book, Letters to Gabriel, of letter she wrote to her deceased baby. That's not normal.

Last I looked it was something like 20% of religious people in Texas were Catholic vs. 16% Baptist. When you're speaking of a statewide election that isn't gerrymandered, that's a significant number of people to anger.

A Honduran mother removes her two-year-old daughter's shoe laces, as required by U.S. Border Patrol agents, after being detained near the U.S.-Mexico border on June 12, 2018 in McAllen, Texas. The asylum seekers had rafted across the Rio Grande from Mexico and were detained by federal authorities before being sent to a processing center for possible separation. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is executing the Trump administration's 'zero tolerance' policy towards undocumented immigrants. (Photo by John Moore/Getty Images

I had assumed before seeing this caption, that the poor mother was trying to tie the little girl's shoes, so they wouldn't be loose as she went on ahead to be locked away without her. To learn they are removing their shoe laces, probably because they fear (due to fear of bad publicity) that some kid might try to use them to commit suicide, is sadder, yet.

You can see from the posture and character of the woman's attention to the child, she dearly loves her.

Walking with flappy shoes will make things much harder for the toddler. Shameful.

Thank you for posting the article.

Heard part of it during Ari Melber's 5pm show on MSNBC, then a lot more on Rachel Maddow's show. Wife couldn't stop sobbing. Choked me up. She speaks Spanish so she could understand what those poor kids were saying.

This has to stop. I think we're going to get to the border tomorrow or Wednesday to see what we can do.

Purely political BS in an election year. Rafael has to be more than happy with what's happening.
