Dem House candidate in West Virginia voted for Trump

Source: The Hill

Richard Ojeda backed Donald Trump for president, but the West Virginia state senator is now running as a Democrat for the House as his party seeks to wrest control of Congress from Republicans.

In an interview with Hill.TV’s “Rising,” Ojeda said it’s not that he always agrees with Trump, who remains very popular in West Virginia.

“If you have a great idea, I'll support your great idea. But if you don't have a great idea, I won’t,” he said.

“Just because I support somebody doesn’t necessarily mean I'll agree with them always. If they do not do something that’s correct, I have the right to make comment.”

Are you that politically naive not appreciate that the only way we can at least slow down this insanity is by at least taking back one or both of the Houses.

It is the majority in the House and the Senate that set the agenda.

I am not trying to be patronizing, but West Virginia not a liberal mecca, and if that is going to happen it will take years to be realized.

If there is a chance to replace a republican from that district with a Democrat, that is paramount at this time.

In 2016 some folks refused to vote for the Democratic nominee by either voting third party or not voting. Not only did that give us trump, but every Democratic running for Senate in those critical swing states lost to the establishment, incumbent, republican, and those Democrats running for the Senate were liberal by any standard.

Not voting or voting third party is the same thing as voting republican

When they count how many Democrats and how many GOPee-ers there are, he will be counted as a Democrat. If there are more Democrats than GOPee-ers then we gain control of all the committes, Speakership etc.

If we win, we'll be in charge of all the committees. Imagine all of the very valid investigations and hearings that we will be conducting into illegal, unethical or just plain stupid political appointees. We will make their lives hell and gum up the works for the duration (should Mueller not act first) of trump's presidency.

So you’re telling me; Sanders runs as an Independent and gets crucified regardless of the fact that he’s had a propulsion agenda his entire career; yet thus jag off votes for Trump and gets a pass “because we need the seats!”

Is this fk’n serious?

only for the reason to have the majority in the House.

It isn't for his f**king support, it is only so the Democrats can set the agenda. The majority in the respective houses set the agenda.

This doesn't even apply to Sanders. Sanders aligns with the Democrats, and Vermont is a blue state. West Virginia is as red as they come. As of right now, it is either going to be the right wing asshole who has assumed the D label or the rightwing asshole who has assumed the R label. That is the choice right now in that district in West Virginia

It isn't because I want him, it is because it is either going to be him or a republican, and every D head count matters in the House in order to have the majority.

If you don't grasp the point I am making then that is the way it is

previous party identification, and that still has not changed.

The Democratic party also does not expel anyone who wants to align themselves with the Democratic party no matter what their party affiliation.

What I believe you are referring to is the rule that if a person wants to be nominated as a Democratic candidate for President, he must identify as a Democrat, and that is essentially the way it always was, and the way it was in 2016, and that is what the nominees in 2016 who were running for the Democratic nomination did, they registered as Democrats, regardless of there previous affiliation.

He's ALWAYS run as a Democrat. He's a retired Army major, believes the coal industry has to be regulated to protect the safety and health of its workers...I would like a candidate who's going to work to impeach and imprison Trump starting on January 6 of next year, but that candidate isn't going to win WV-3. This one probably will.

He’s pro union, anti Big Pharma, pro legalization/ prison reform. He stood with the teachers/service personnel during the strike and stands up for what he believes in. He’s the real deal and is the type of candidate that can win in many of the current Red states. For those that say we should just get rid of WV- that’s the kind of elitist nonsense that gets so many turned against the party. Anthony Bourdain did an excellent episode in WV earlier this year. I’d suggest you all watch it.
