President Trump has calculated that he will gain political leverage in congressional negotiations by continuing to enforce a policy he claims to hate — separating immigrant parents from their young children at the southern border, according to White House officials.

On Friday, Trump suggested he would not change the policy unless Democrats agreed to his other immigration demands, which include funding a border wall, tightening the rules for border enforcement and curbing legal entry. He also is intent on pushing members of his party to vote for a compromise measure that would achieve those long-standing priorities.

So Trump admits to kidnapping the children and holding them hostage until Congress meets his ransom demands, especially fully funding his fucking Wall.

The thing is, as we all know the Republicans hold both houses of Congress, so why does he need Democratic support to get everything he wants? Does he want to show his base how tough he is (it seems to be a character defect of this president) and how he can force even the Democrats to bend to his will? It would be consistent with his intransigence at the G7 summit, and his admiration of authoritarian leaders. Christ, we even have pictures of the North Korean mass murderer on the walls of the WH now!

Eventually the judiciary will get involved, and when they do Trump is fucked. He hates the judicial system with a passion, because it's the only branch of government he can't wield complete control over. Give him time, though; the Republicans in the Senate are falling over themselves to approve every ideological nominee IQ45 is putting up for the courts, whether they are qualified or not, mostly not.

The only thing he's concerned with is the Rethugs losing the House in November, and if this continues, it will be the final nail in the coffin they made for themselves. If the Dems don't beat them over the head with this (and everything else this maniac has done) from now until the election, they don't deserve to win. They need to make the Rethugs OWN this. They can't let Trump turn this around on them.

And as far as I'm concerned, there's a special place in hell not only for Collins, but for Murkowski, Capito, and any other woman in that cabal of liars and thieves that still call themselves "moderates". They've obviously decided to put their entire experience as mothers themselves, and what every instinct they have as human beings, on "hold" and are doing what their male overlords demand.

...this isn't about compassion and humanity, this is about the piss-poor optics that the Congressional Rethugs are getting.

And introduce two articles of impeachment. One for Orange Shitgibbon and other for Pence.

We've been down the all too familiar primrose path before remember what they did with DACA? Even if McConnell does something besides fake hand wringing, any legislation to protect families would still be attached to billions of dollars to pay for Trump's stupid wall and more draconian policies to cater to white nationalism.

What he wants is an end to the bad PR, especially among the religious crowd. He obviously thought the God Squad would back him up. When they didn't, suddenly he found he was jumping out of a plane without a parachute, and discovered a conscience (or, rather, he looked it up to find out what a conscience was, and THEN acquired one).
