Poll: Pardon me? Most say Trump should be impeached if he pardons himself

Source: USA Today

President Trump has declared that he has the “absolute” right to pardon himself.

Americans disagree.

By more than 3-1, 64 percent to 18 percent, those surveyed in a USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll say the president doesn’t have the power to pardon himself. Even Republicans are inclined to split with Trump on this. Just 29% say he has the power to pardon himself; 45% say he doesn’t.

Trying to do so could spark a constitutional crisis for the White House: 58 percent of Americans, including 31 percent of Republicans, say the House of Representatives should impeach the president if he pardons himself.

We can't mathematically get 2/3 of the Senate before then.

And thinking McTurtle's RePutin criminals would ever impeach Pres. Turd is a pipe dream.

One thing about Republicans, they are very short on forgiveness. This election is a referendum on Trump. If a LOT of new Democratic faces show up in the next Congress - which, considering the Trump administration is costing people a LOT of extra money since gas, food and medical price increases since he took office have eliminated any advantage they might have gotten from the Trump tax atrocity, is a very distinct possibility - the GOP will think very hard about eliminating Il Douche.

If Trump were impeached tomorrow, Pence would serve the remaining 2.5 years, but that would count as his first term. So, he could run for re-election once, in 2020. So he could serve as president a maximum 6.5 years.

If Trump were impeached after Jan 21, 2019, he could serve the remaining 1.99 years, and it would not count as a term, so he could run for election in 2020 and 2024, a potential presidency of almost 10 years.

Both options are, IMHO, more frightening than another 2.5 years of Trump.

I'm not a fan of impeaching Trump, not with Pence waiting, drool dripping from his fangs.

Why not just go ahead and impeach him, anyway, since the ONE pardon power he is denied is one that interferes with an impeachment!

One of the Articles of Impeachment against President Andrew Johnson was that he spoke ill of Congress in a loud voice.
