GOP strategist Steve Schmidt denounces party, will vote for Democrats

Source: The Hill

BY MORGAN GSTALTER - 06/20/18 07:33 AM EDT

Republican strategist Steve Schmidt, one of the GOP's loudest critics of President Trump, renounced the party early Wednesday and announced that he will begin voting for Democrats.

Schmidt slammed Trump in a Twitter thread, saying he was leaving the party that once ended slavery.

“29 years and nine months ago I registered to vote and became a member of The Republican Party which was founded in 1854 to oppose slavery and stand for the dignity of human life,” Schmidt tweeted.

“This Independent voter will be aligned with the only party left in America that stands for what is right and decent and remains fidelitous to our Republic, objective truth, the rule of law and our Allies. That party is the Democratic Party,” Schmidt wrote.

Schmidt called for a blue wave to bring back Democratic majorities in the 2018 midterm elections.

Hey Steve Schmidt,, we have open arms for you and others............................thank you.....................

I was wondering, every time I would see him on msnbc. Now, time for Michael Steele to take the plunge.

They need to start a movement. Rather than just give up, any old-school Republicans with some remaining shred of a conscience need to do this, make it OK for people to have a conscience, even Republicans.

I don't think Michael Steele or Nicole Wallace are far behind. Steele was close to the tipping point when Franklin Graham(?) claimed that we should be giving Trump a "mulligan" on the Stormy Daniels issue. This should do it.

But am not holding my breath. They both talk a good story, but back down every time. For cryin' out loud, Collins took McConnell's WORD on something, and then was shocked, SHOCKED that he broke it! https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/12/4/1721085/-Surprise-McConnell-just-broke-all-those-promises-Susan-Collins-got-in-exchange-for-her-tax-vote

She is all hat and no cattle....lots of words of concern and some push back against her party....all to get her some face time...but when its time to put up, she falls right back in line. I do not trust anything that comes out of that woman's mouth.

When people refer to historical positions of the 2 major parties, they often forget that their positions changed radically over decades, centuries...

I prefer to think of something more along the lines of liberals vs conservatives, or open minded vs closed minded, or -- you get the picture.......

Eh, that's just me being picky...
