Turkey Hits Back at U.S. With Tariffs on $1.1 Billion of Goods

Source: Bloomberg

The Turkish government imposed tariffs of $266.5 million on $1.1 billion worth of U.S. goods Thursday in retaliation for President Donald Trump’s levies on steel and aluminum imports.

“We cannot and will not allow Turkey to be wrongly blamed for America’s economic challenges,” Turkish Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci said in a statement. “We are part of the solution, not the problem.”

The tariffs will affect 12 percent of the $9.4 billion worth of goods that the U.S. exports to Turkey, according to data provided by the U.S. Trade Representative. Total goods and services trade between U.S. and Turkey was $22.4 billion in 2016, the most recent data available.

The move comes as other World Trade Organization members prepare to trigger retaliatory tariffs against the U.S.

7. Isolation is one of many dictators tools for control

When the country becomes isolated and no one wants to deal with you it gives a chance to create fictitious enemies, which the dictator's policies created in the first place. Isolation is important because to the stupid, it means "us against them" so they unite by a false premise that the World is against us and we must fight and support our "leader" for us to win that war.

George Orwell's "1984", and the others I list below, should be must read for high school kids in the 9th grade, then a review on the 11th and 12th grade because they need to be able to compare, and prepare, against the policies and actions that people running for office have and are planning to make. We need an educated voter population, and the only way is to push them to read relevant literature.

Three books should be a must in high school:
1. George Orwell's "1984"
2. Sinclair Lewis "It Can't Happen Here"
3. George Orwell's "Animal Farm"

Then kids will learn to recognize demagogues and liars who are running for office and dismiss them when the cast their vote.

5. He is manufacturing an economic crisis

Workers are scarce, so he's deporting unskilled labor.

Tariffs are making foreign-made things we buy more expensive, and restricting supply.

Foreign retaliatory tariffs are reducing our exports.

Higher prices, reduced supply, reduced production.

This is a prescription for market disruptions, scarcity, inflation, black market goods, capital flight, government controls on free markets potentially.

This is a Whack-job's economic policy.

Your summary should be copied and sent to everyone you know, this is exactly what has been done in countries like Venezuela, and see where they are now.
