GOP lawmaker calls on Trump to fire Stephen Miller

Source: the Hill

By Julia Manchester - 06/21/18 05:06 PM EDT
Take his help while we can --and vote him out in NOV.

Rep. Mike Coffman (R-Co.) called on President Trump to fire White House senior adviser Stephen Miller over the controversy surrounding migrant family separations at the U.S.–Mexico border.

..........................................
Miller is considered one of Trump's most hardline advisers on immigration.

Coffman added that he is organizing a trip to Texas's southern border, where he plans to inspect the facilities where migrant children are being held.

The Colorado lawmaker is considered a vulnerable Republican in a seat that the Cook Political Report has rated a "toss-up" ahead of November's midterm elections.
.........................................

The representative's comments also come hours after he broke with other Republicans on Thursday, voting against the more conservative of two immigration bills being pushed in the House. .........................................

I’m glad the President ended the border separation policy, but there’s more work to do. I’m going to the border in TX myself this weekend to see the situation firsthand and learn more about what needs to get done. The President should put a General, a respected retired CEO....

or some other senior leadership figure on the job of making sure each and every child is returned to their parents. And the President should fire Stephen Miller now. This is a human rights mess. It is on the President to clean it up and fire the people responsible for making it.

I'm willing to overlook insincerity if his actions help get these children back with their families! Do the right thing Mike!!

2. So is no one ever allowed to change their political position?

Frankly, every time I hear of a Republican coming out against Trump, I cheer. Human lives are far more important than politics.

On edit: He can't "fire" Trump. The most he can do is speak and work against him. He's begun to do that.

8. Of course we're glad. But he needs to go further than just condemnation on one issue.

Nothing in my post criticized Coffman for changing that bit of his position. I simply called on him to go further.

If Trump did fire Miller, he'd just replace him with someone equally awful.

Coffman can "fire" Trump by calling for and supporting impeachment or 25th Amendment.

That no Republicons are doing so is how they continue to enable the madness of Trump. They are truly the Trump-Republican Party. They need to become the Rump-Republicon Party, a mere shadow of the former GOP.

His "change", as you say, is based on political realities, not a true change of heart. Seriously, where the hell has he been the last year and a half? Siding with the psycho caucus on most issues, that's where he's been.

3. Only a true sociopath would ever consider having Stephen Miller anywhere around him/her.

You'd have to be a fellow demon. My godl

He'd be a good choice to fire at Mars as the first man on Mars, as the hero of the biggest accomplishment in the entire history of the world, maybe the universe. Everyone is saying that.

10. I sincerely welcome his call for Miller to be fired. When will Republicans who are not "vulnerable"

(or retiring) start to speak up? The Republican Party has morphed into a hard line far right xenophobic nationalist party. We absolutely need every Republican voice we can get to speak out. This is getting very dangerous. I will hold my tongue regarding "what took you so long?" and "you encouraged this to happen" and "you knew damn well what Trump always stood for". Right now it is "better late than never" before it is "too late" to stop what is happening to our country.
