WH Press Secretary Sarah Sanders: Due Process Doesn't Require a Judge

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders attempted Monday to defend President Donald Trump’s claim that immigrants seeking asylum should not be seen by a judge. In a pair of tweets Monday morning, Trump attacked due process and argued that immigrants should immediately be refused at the border, writing that “Hiring manythousands [sic] of judges, and going through a long and complicated legal process, is not the way to go - will always be disfunctional [sic]. People must simply be stopped at the Border and told they cannot come into the U.S. illegally.” “If this is done, illegal immigration will be stopped in it’s [sic] tracks - and at very little, by comparison, cost,” he added. When a reporter asked Sanders about the tweets during a press briefing, she responded that “Just because you don’t see a judge doesn’t mean you aren’t receiving due process,” according to a tweet from Politico. It seems unlikely, however, that blocking immigrants at the border would fulfill the requirements of due process, which states that no person, citizen or non-citizen, “be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.”
