Michael Bloomberg Considering 2020 Presidential Run, Sources Tell CBS2
Source: WCBS
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) Maybe the fourth time is the charm.
Michael Bloomberg is revving up to run for president in 2020, making him both the oldest and richest person to seek the job.
Bloomberg considered running in 2016 as an Independent, but sources tell CBS2s Political Reporter Marcia Kramer that if he runs in 2020, he would run as a Democrat.
A source close to the former three-term mayor says the move is fueled in part by regret that he didnt stay in the race in 2016, because he feels he could have either won outright or prevented Donald Trump from winning.

Speaking for myself, I'd be proud to vote for him. But as you know, that's the kind of tripe he'd be up against - and it may be too much to overcome, sadly.

It's still a crap sandwich, though.

(520 posts)In 2020, he'd be 78. Assuming he wins, he'd be in office until he's 82. My dad is presently 80 years old and in good health. His thinking is clear, and he does a number of things with me. But no way would I vote for him for president.

(13,616 posts)We know that between him and Bernie, the job will be to divide the dems again, which is the only way trump has of winning election. Doubkle that if the GOp does the smart thing, makes Trump "retire" and puts Pence up, aka, the "bring in the Jeebus Freak" vote.

(92,396 posts)Bloomberg came out saying that he would be contributing 80 million dollars to Democrats in 2018
For some reason the media loves to stir this shit up, based on some "unknown" source.
Bloomberg is savey enough to know that running as a third party would be a spoiler candidate. He won't do it. If he did run, which he won't, he would run as a Democrat, and go through the normal Democratic primary process. Everything he has done and said since the election has been in opposition to the republican agenda. Running as an independent would contradict everything he has been doing
I am sure elements in the media are having fun trying to stir things up among Democrats to build anxiety and uncertainty.
My advice is, unless Bloomberg himself comes out and says such a thing, assume its lie

My bad.....
Still, I don't think he will, but if he did I think the odds our very much against him getting the nomination.
Just my personal view.

(13,058 posts)she and Kirsten Gillibrand colluded to booting out Al Franken. I won't get over that. That and she's inexperienced. Give her some more time as senator to season up a bit.

More because of her Att Gen job in CA
If she is our nominee I assume you will vote for her though.

(37,648 posts)I'd consider him. I don't know a lot about him, but having seen him on tv for years, don't think I've heard him say anything objectionable.
He'd appeal to independents, I think.
Only thing I didn't like, that I recall, was prohibiting large size soft drinks in New York? I thought that was overboard, and who the heck does that? As if that's the cause of anything? That's a symptom, if anything. Or was it just a tax, a way to get more money?
But I like him. I think he's likable and as honest as any politician is.

(13,058 posts)he'll be good for the country. He's one heck of a pragmatist and moderate. I'd vote for him any day.
Me.
(35,454 posts)NOT and, bear in mind, NYers have 2x voted for term limits...Bloomberg made a deal with Christine Quinn, City Council Pres...and between them they overturned the vote so he could have a 3rd term...we don't need another cheater.

(13,058 posts)Look at all of his achievements in totality - here's a list
http://www.businessinsider.com/the-10-biggest-changes-mayor-bloomberg-has-made-to-new-york-2012-6#the-soda-ban-2012-10
Granted i didn't agree with his stop & frisk policy and a couple other things, for the most part he has a pretty good record. Improved education and gun control - way to go. Would you rather Bloomberg as POTUS of this POS in office another 4 years if Mueller doesn't get him first? This country cannot afford another 4 years of his pathology. We need a sensible man who can reverse the evils the orange nut & his ilk has brought on this country and stand up to the repugs.
Me.
(35,454 posts)Way too soon to start that and frankly, you're putting way too much faith in a man who has autocratic tendencies. Let's see how the field shakes out...I'm betting there will be real actual Dem candidates to choose from. And one more thing..he's no slam dunk as has been pointed out time and again. Also don't see the country voting for another rich NYer and so on and so forth.
onetexan
(13,058 posts)i have my own. IMHO Biden's the only candidate i'd vote for if he runs, and Bloomberg will have my vote if he wins the primary.
I will vote for the DEm candidate but am hoping I'm not facing the choice of putting another cheater in office

(11,258 posts)That is a monumental dark stain on his legacy. He needs to atone for that emphatically.
Running NYC for 12 years does give him proper prior experience to consider further political ventures unlike nearly every other billionaire.

I really disliked his authoritarian mayoralty and don't want him anywhere near the presidency, he's no Comrade Trump but look out.

(68,667 posts)but if he tries to run as a Dem we'll be faced with the same problem as the last election. So presumptuous that the former Republican, now Independent, thinks he could just run as a Dem.
